jeremy enigk live in bobcat studio 8.29.96

Jeremy.jpg

during my 21st year, myself and a couple of friends headed to the metro, in chicago, to see velocity girl. velocity girl was fronted by the object of our collective desire, sarah shannon. velocity girl were pure pop bliss, btw. we happened to be running on time that particular evening so we able to catch the opener, sunny day real estate. if i had to choose between nailing scarlett johansson and reliving that show, it would be a tough call. i would still probably take scarlett, but you get the picture. while, i dont listen to diary much anymore, i find it hard to digest, i still pull out how it feels to be something on quite a bit. how it feels is much more focused and dare i say “mature” than the angst ridden diary.

jeremy is following up his orchestral laden debut return of the frog queen with a record called world waits on 10.17. here is a very cool 5 song show that he did for some contest winners in seattle. he is backed by a 9 piece orchestra and it was recorded at bobcat studios the same place he recorded frog queen.

explosions in the sky 3.7.04

i liken listening to explosions in the sky to an out of body experience or sitting in an open field during what seems like a cloudless night then watching a terrific and violent storm pass through. even after you think the coast is clear, that scenario plays out over and over again, only this time even more beautiful and terrifying.

here is a show from berlin from 3.7.04

it’s time for destruction

guns_n_roses_1.jpg

without fail, every year i break out appetite for destruction for about two weeks and revel in all its glory.? after those two weeks are up, it goes back into a 50 week slumber.? for a brief period in time they were the greatest band on the planet, everything in the universe was aligned perfectly much like when constanza?achieved the high score in frogger it was a perfect combination of mountain dew with mozerella,?with just the right amount of grease on the joystick.??i?can say with utmost certainty that they/he will never achieve that kind of greatness again, but appetite and lies are good enough for me.

introducing…

no amount of intelligence could sum up the anarchist vampire better than the above.? i found this artist two years ago while doing a search for nude anarchist lesbians who partake in drinking blood in zip code 30307, and thus the anarchist vampire was thrust into my life.? fastforward to a few weeks ago and while conducting the same search this artist was brought back into my world.? i dont want to ruin it for you good people, but thank fucking god for him and his crew.

these are samples from his debut recording, trials of the undead. enjoy

you dont stop the body rock

from 87 through about 95/96 I was a pretty huge hip hop fan. since then i have not?paid much attention to the genre, cause frankly 98% of the stuff i have heard has been a sorry excuse. sure there are a few artists like aesop rock, mr lif, cannibal ox, el p, and a few others still droppin the science, but as a whole hip hop is in the shitter.  any argument to the contrary is complete nonsense and as they used to say “straight up booty whack.” well, over the past 8 months tommy boy records have released 12 volumes of what they consider to be hip hop essentials from ‘79 - ‘91. me thinks they did a pretty good job collecting most of the classics, but there were some glaring omissions. here’s a brief sampler

ice t - im your pusher

eric b and rakim - microphone fiend

the d.o.c.?- its funky enough

biz markie - vapors

sir mix alot - posse on broadway

kool moe dee - wild wild west

digital underground - doowutchyalike

3rd bass - the gas face
