ted leo on the current and chips ahoy!

one dude i can never get enough of is ted leo. at first, in all honesty, i really didnt “get” him and his brand of the rock. needless to say all it took was seeing him live to fully win me over. here is an in studio performance/interview from 89.3 The Current he did back in june of 05.

1. talk

2. me and mia

3. talk

4. counting down the hours

5. talk

6. heart problems

7. talk

wouldn’t you know it, the fucktards over at pfork got the exclusive to “chips ahoy” the new single off of the yet to be released hold steady record boys and girls in america. i think its great, btw. craig actually almost “sings” at a couple of points during the song. in typical craig finn fashion he makes something as mundane as placing bets on the ponies into something kinda sexy and entertaining.

thanks and the majestic twelve

man, its been a very tiresome and annoying week here captain’s dead. after thinking i was going to stick with dreamhost i found a hosting company, anhosting, that would transfer all my shit over, for free. dont ask me why i wanted to leave dreamhost, cause i really never had any issues but i felt like i needed a change. anhosting is outta chicago, so maybe i wanted to feel connected to my home in some kind of fashion. so far, the peeps at anhosting has been pretty helpful. not as helpful as my man, kyle from more cowbell. he is seriously the glue that keeps this boat afloat. thanks again, kyle!

so, i got an email sometime a couple of weeks ago about the majestic twelve. as per usual i advanced with the utmost of caution. suffice it to say i was more than pleasantly surprised. the majestic twelve will definitely not be everyone’s cup of tea, but no band worth their weight in horn rimmed glasses is. they are offering their record schizophrenology available for free via their website, which is pretty damn cool of them you have to admit. it is definitely worth the download, but just in case you are a little aprehensive here are two tracks from said record.

welcome to the city

condoleezza, check my posse

if you are anything like me you probably forget about a lot of shit.? sure, you write stuff down on random pieces of paper, only to never be seen again.? when you do find these scraps, you can never decipher what the hell you wrote.? i once found a post it note that read something like “chicken dumplings on the freeway at 10 pm.”? the most depressing part of being so scatter-brained is that i tend to miss a lot of shows.? most notably, the recent appearance of my main negro greg dulli.? a show that i even posted about a couple of times!?? well my man chris at tourfilter is changing the way we remember shit.? well, at least shows coming to your particular area.? he has come up with a pretty great concept, i must confess.? add tourfilter to another idea i wish i had come up with first.? thus far he has most of the major cities covered, with more on the way i am assuming.? he just launched atlanta on monday, btw.

check out this dude paul brill, i am still trying to decide if i dig him or really dont care for him at all.

wooden wand and its various offshoots is a bit of a mystery to me.?it could very well be that my researching skills suck, or that my?ability to wade through paragraphs of bullshit is not what it used to be.? check out the wooden wand info page and see what i mean.? luckily for him/them/whoever i dig what they are layin down.??wooden wand has teamed up with some peeps from the skygreen leopards and totem to make up?wooden wand and the sky high band.? they are releasing a record entitled second attention?sometime soon - i could not find a definite date on the kill rock stars site.? second attention reminds me of a?really great brian jonestown record, but?less druggy and much more focused.??it also leaves me feeling like second attention could?have been recorded sometime in the 60’s/70’s.? there are no mp3’s being offered up just yet for second attention, or better yet none that i could find.? so, here are some from wooden wand and whoever.
