sometime between the first and second mysterious fires that plagued the beat kitchen, the wife and i were going through our normal saturday routine of doing laundry in between what always turned out to be heavy drinking. in any event, as we sat and discussed whatever it is the wife and i talk about, “dark end of the street” graced the bar. i, for some reason, dont ever recall hearing “dark end..” before and i was immediately smitten. i am sure i had heard this before, but never paid it any mind. i think during this period of my musical life i was in some kind of transition, i started getting into a whole bunch of stuff that was pre-my birth, 1974. although, i am still not able to get into the beatles, no matter how hard i try. i got quite the education that day on all things burrito brothers/the byrds from the barkeep. of course i had heard of the byrds before but didnt really know anyting until he put on sweetheart of the rodeo - which in my opinion, and i am sure many others, is one of the greatest records ever recorded.
here is a show from june 8, 1969 live from the palimino club in north hollywood.

Better Off Dead. Classic. Almost as sweet as Corn-Fed getting kicked to the curb. We can only hope this augurs the start of Britney’s unrepentant whore stage, following in Madonna’s footsteps.
i just got into gram about 3 years ago. i’d always heard his name being bandied about, chris robinson and the black crowes always covered his songs but i never put forth the effort until recently. so glad i did. i’ve become obsessed with him.
thanks for noticing, vjb2. matt, oddly i prefer his burrito/byrds stuff more than his solo stuff.
i love FBB a lot. much more than most byrds stuff. my friend who lives in petaluma, ca has gotten high with chris hillman. very odd story.
Hey Dead Captain. FBB Rock!
Have never heard live FBB stuff. Thanks for the tracks!
