i have to admit something to you people. my tastes in movies is not nearly refined as my musical palette. i love shitty movies, and the one i am currently watching is doom. i was not a huge fan of the game. i have never been much of a first person shooter type of gamer. i always find the the perspective a bit disorientating, which i guess is the point. although, my favorite game happens to be a first shooter, deus ex. anyway, enough about my geeky gaming tendencies. i also have to admit that the rock is probably one of my biggest guilty pleasures. for some reason he makes me laugh, wether intentionally or not. ever since the rundown, which is great and also features the lovely rosario dawson and of course christopher walken, i have been an unapologetic rock fan.
i heard the new modest mouse song “dashboard” this morning, and quite frankly it did nothing for me. it was catchy, but i seriously thought it was like franz ferdinand (sp?) or some band of that caliber. maybe it will work better within the context of the record, or lets say i hope it does. johnny marr produced this one, correct? i dug good news and moon and antarctica, the latter especially, but i still prefer the lonesome and this is a long drive era stuff.
one dude/collective that i still cant quite figure out is beirut. the dude is talented as hell, thats for damn sure but there is something, that i cant figure out, that bugs me about him. maybe its his often wavering voice that grates me so. i know he is releasing an ep shortly, and maybe that will help me turn some kind of corner.
this show can now be found here
here is an excellent soundboard recording of beirut’s performance from october 18, 06 live in portland, oregon.

Wow - some recording. The opened for Calexico in Glasgow a few months ago and I just couldn’t quite make it from Edinburgh in time to see them. Bollocks.
yeah its a real nice recording for sure. that would have been a cool show, but i can see it getting kind of boring since their styles are kinda similar.
Hey hey — thanks for the recording. Great quality. A couple of the tracks are mis-labelled both above and in the MP3s. #16 is both Scenic World AND Ederlezi. Track #18 is Siki Siki Baba. Track #19 is banter.
thanks for pointing that out gary. my quality control is suspect i must admit. typically i listen for flaws but dont typically check the track listings. again, thanks.
