out of all the records i own, my most listened to over the past 15 years is quite possibly the san diego based overwhelming colorfast’s power pop masterpiece two words. if its not, its only second behind crooked rain, well shit maybe behind bee thousand too. but still, thats still saying alot about the greatness of two words. front man bob reed, and really the only permanent member, never met a hook he didnt like. two words is one big freakin hook-a-thon, from beginning to end. its much like copper blue but only with its feet firmly planted more in pop. sadly, i dont know what mr reed is up to these days. there is a brief 3 song clip on youtube that apparently was part some kind of reunion show that took place in august of the 06.

how can it be
i dont know how many tech geeks are in the audience, but there has been alot of cool shit coming out at the CES. i have been following engadget almost minute by minute for updates from the show. one that i have been following is the rumoured release of the apple phone. according to the wallstreet journal, cingular is going to be releasing this piece of technological porn. fuckin cingular!!!!!
what a “not want to do anything” day this has been. the boy has been ill the past couple of days and literally has not left the couch all day today. therefore, we are wallowing in his laziness and catching up on some of our own. one downside to his current condition is that we have watched the sponge bob movie a few of times, as well as the curious george movie - which was mildly entertaining. i believe he may have some mild form of obsessive compulsive behaviour, which i can probably chaulk up to bad parenting.
have you guys checked out chicagoan david vandervelde as of yet? he’s definitely got a t rex, bowie and 70’s glam vibe going on. typically this kind of style is not my thing but he doesnt kiss too much influence ass to make it way over the fucking top. its the direction i wish dan bejar and destroyer would have taken after i first heard streethawk. david’s got a new record the moonstation house band comin out at the end of the month.

i have to admit something to you people. my tastes in movies is not nearly refined as my musical palette. i love shitty movies, and the one i am currently watching is doom. i was not a huge fan of the game. i have never been much of a first person shooter type of gamer. i always find the the perspective a bit disorientating, which i guess is the point. although, my favorite game happens to be a first shooter, deus ex. anyway, enough about my geeky gaming tendencies. i also have to admit that the rock is probably one of my biggest guilty pleasures. for some reason he makes me laugh, wether intentionally or not. ever since the rundown, which is great and also features the lovely rosario dawson and of course christopher walken, i have been an unapologetic rock fan.
i heard the new modest mouse song “dashboard” this morning, and quite frankly it did nothing for me. it was catchy, but i seriously thought it was like franz ferdinand (sp?) or some band of that caliber. maybe it will work better within the context of the record, or lets say i hope it does. johnny marr produced this one, correct? i dug good news and moon and antarctica, the latter especially, but i still prefer the lonesome and this is a long drive era stuff.
one dude/collective that i still cant quite figure out is beirut. the dude is talented as hell, thats for damn sure but there is something, that i cant figure out, that bugs me about him. maybe its his often wavering voice that grates me so. i know he is releasing an ep shortly, and maybe that will help me turn some kind of corner.
this show can now be found here

so the family and i are back safe and sound back in the atlanta area. we ended up leaving a day later than expected mostly due to my laziness and dread of sitting in a car for 12 or so hours. all in all it was definitely a better trip than the last time we visited chicago during christmas time. although, within about 12 hours of our arrival i started feeling like shit, which pretty much lasted the whole week. nothing a boat load of booze couldnt remedy.
