ok, this whole working overnights thing is getting old and its only been like 3 days. i actually dont mind going in at that time, but sleeping from 7 am to whenever pm is kinda weird and disorientating. i really dont like having to be up for a shit load of hours and then having to work. i like being half asleep in the morning and then going to work cause at least i get to wake up over the course of the day - even though it takes me until about lunch time to do so. luckily its only for a couple more weeks.
before meeting my wife, i had a utter disdain for david bowie. i am not to sure where this severe indifference came from but he bugged the hell out of me for no apparent reason. sadly, this is quite typical with me. anyway, my lady over the course of about a year somehow got me to appreciate bowie. maybe it was the nonstop playing of ziggy stardust, alladin sane and/or station to station that won me over or i was just too lazy to fight it any longer, i dont know. admittedly, those are the only bowie records i really dig on a whole, but hey his catalogue is much to vast to dig that much deeper. yes, i am lazy too.
here he is performing in st louis on 10.11.95 at the riverport ampitheatre. the first 5 tracks are performed with mr trent reznor.

holy shit that was horrendous. i am speaking about the bug that crawled into me and pushed everything that resided in my body out in a not so nice manner. i hope none of you are on the receiving end this little number, and if you do i wish you well.
anyway, two records that i have failed to talk about as of late is the broken family band’s jesus songs and balls. before ever hearing em, i read somewhere that they were the “best country band on the other side of the atlantic,” which had got me kinda excited. the reality is is that i think they are pretty great and they dont really play country music in the strictest of sense. sure there are countrified numbers, especially those found on jesus songs but they wouldnt be your grandfathers idea of country music. considering lead family member steven adams kinda sounds like the dude from the violent femmes, whose name escapes me at the moment. balls relies on rural america as a backdrop for most of the songs but they added a touch of dirty punk and early 90’s southern california guitar work which of course cuts against that “country” grain.
walking back to jesus from jesus songs
im thirsty from balls
honest mans blues from welcome home, loser
song against robots from cold water songs

so i wake up at my usual 5.30 a.m. to get to work at my designated 7 a.m. when i walk through the door my boss stops and is like “hey man, can you do me a favor and come in at 11 pm tonight? i tried to call you but didnt have your number.” ok, so you tried to call a number you didnt have? makes sense. i, oddly enough, wasnt that annoyed until i got home and realized that there was no way i was going to get much sleep. i took a 2 hour nap and i am guessing thats all i am getting. this is not going to be fun. the reason for the overnight hours is that we are building an entirely new network at ft. mcpherson, here in georgia, we have to then migrate all 3000+ users to said network and then scrub all their data. its a pretty big undertaking and they have definitely underestimated the amount of hurdles and road blocks we were going to face with such a huge network.
i’ll be honest with you people, wilco’s sky blue sky is pretty damn great. as i had stated earlier, i wasnt to keen on it my first couple of listens. mostly due to the fact that i was not prepared for such a record from my beloved wilco. its an early/mid 70’s am radio driving thru the middle of nowhere kinda record.? so being on the wilco kick that i am on, here they are performing on 11.15.04 live from the filmore.? this is part one of a two part collection.

btw, i know that the chosen wilco photo doesnt correspond to this particular era’s wilco, i just like the photo.
in other news, i cant stress enough the coolness of last.fm’s personal radio station feature - which i think you only get if you donate.? one thing i love about it is that it brings up a lot of older stuff that i have not listened to in a while.? for only 3 bucks a month it brings me hours and hours of pleasure.
i believe this lovely photo was taken by this guy
have you guys been to virb as of yet? i am kinda confused by the concept which at this point is no different than myspace or mog or insert any other creepy social networking community. i am guessing at this point a lot of people, like myself, are quite over the whole myspace thing and virb is looking to capture that audience. give it time though, it will soon be over run with bullshit and young ladies asking you to stop asking about how she makes two hundred bucks per survey. if anyone wants an invite shoot an email to me @ gregor@captainsdead.com - i got 15 to pass around.
oh parenthood is every so lovely sometimes. my boy, mac, is vomiting every ten to fifteen minutes, which is pretty vile.
