for you smokers out there. am i the only one to have a thousand lighters, but never one actually on my persons? its just a given that i never have a lighter and i since i dont actually carry money on me, i refuse to debit a buck for one. i have been trying to quit so you would think that the absence of a lighter would be a sign, but its not.

ex-varnline and all around awesome guy, anders parker is playing tonight at the earl. he’s got a new live record out called 14th and division: live in portland, oregon august 2.2005. its awesome, by the way, and can be purchased through his site, on his current tour and maybe on itunes.

there’s something strangely comforting about jeremy grites and jason brown’s swivel chairs. i cant quite my get head around them just yet, though. they must have been raised in the 80’s cause their is something about their guitar tones that leads me to believe they nurtured their brand of rock/pop on the cassette tape. they just dont sound like a band from the 00’s and maybe its cause i have been listening to a bit of xtc lately, but brown’s plaintive delivery on “afterthought” is quite andy partridge-esque. pretty cool stuff…

i love spacerock. plain and simple. sadly, there arent too many groups tripping down that road worth mentioning now-a-days. out the other side of my mouth, san francisco’s wooden shjips travel and as far as i am concerned, own that road. they got a new self title record out now on holy mountain records.

i highly recommend that you listen with whatever kind of headphones you may have.

i dont know you, but when i want to dive into the westerberg book of songs i more often than not reach for his solo rather than replacements stuff. its a strange phenomenon though cause his best penned words, i think, can be found on much of the replacements records, but i find myself connecting more to the “grownup” paul. even if at the time, i was kinda down on a few of his solo records, most notably eventually and suicaine gratification, cause i wanted him to be stupid, drunk and 20 forever. i was probably projecting some of my own shit about growing up onto him in some weird way.

here he is playing and being interviewed by former del fuego, warren zanes @ first ave on 9.23.07. thanks very much to the original taper!

    I like Wooden Shjips too…

    Awesome…new Westerberg!

I also go for the mature Westerberg now. I guess I’m getting old, but the drunk, sloppy ‘Mats stuff just doesn’t hit me like it used to.

Ahhh…though “Skyway” is just about the most perfect song in the world.

    Thanks!

Unsatisfied nailed me but I love starting my days with CHW! But have to agree that there is something about the mature PW that gets me. I’m glad to have found an artist who talks to me on every level!

Can’t download the files… What happened? I guess if you snooze you lose.

I am the original taper that you took the time to thank at the bottom of your post, and I want to say that I am disgusted that you converted my recording and put it out in an inferior (.mp3) format. This crappy copy will polute the trading pool. Would you please show me a little respect and remove these files from your site?

  8. 8 Noah

Put them back up! The ‘Mats were all about “pollution”. “Inferior format”?? Were all those mix tapes and scratched up LPs were audiophile quality?
All the dude did was tape a show and you’re helping people who weren’t there HEAR IT. Yeah, groovy. But let’s hear the sucker.
Let us CHOOSE to hear him in a crappy format if we so damn well please. As far as I’m concerned, an MP3 of the show is better than nothing…

while i fanatically agree with you, noah, i aint here to start no trouble. i dont want to run the risk of being banned from dime or the other places i get the majority of these shows from. i dont understand the mentality, personally, but i do respect his wishes. rob and i did share a brief correspondence and he seems like a nice guy even if his comment makes him sound kinda like a dick. like i said, i dont understand it but its really not worth fighting about.

. It’s so poorly recorded even with fLAC encoding that i must increase the volume of my speakers .Or is it my ears?.It’s very kind to share your tapes Rob but next time , please stay in front of the scene so we can hear clearly every single word.I guess it’s due to some noise audience or bad acoustic.
Concerning the pros and cons of Flac and Mp3, I must say that the Mats Chicago Last concert from 1991 was excellent even in mp3, thanks a lot to gregor for putting it on his site. Really Not worth fighting about but not everybody has a Dime account.
    Nicolas.

thanks for your support nicolas. much appreciated and i agree.

He’s a dick. If he didn’t want to share his show he shouldn’t let anybody have a copy, not pick a choose who’s Westerberg Worthy.
Thanks for posting it anyway. Too bad crybaby had to take his ball and go home and ruin the fun for the rest of us.

  13. 13 gregor

yeah, it was a shame. but it was his bat and ball, i suppose.

Someone else posted them at a different site! He needs to give up.

Put the MP3’s back! Lame lame lame

  16. 16 Nigel

The fact that these Westerberg tunes were taken down got me searching for other Replacements stuff on Captain’s Dead. To my amazement and delight, you posted “Boink!” about a year ago, and the mp3 links STILL WORKED. So, I started downloading with my slow dial-up. I got about half done and the links stopped working. Please, please, post Boink! again. I’d really appreciate it.

  17. 17 Shushie

I second that emotion. Could you please re-up Boink sometime?
