boner, is your voice coming from your armpit?

anyone got an invite to pownce they could send my way? not too sure what i would use it for but it sounds interesting nonetheless. if you do have one to spare and wish to waste it on yours truly send it to me at gregor at captainsdead dot com. thanks in advance!

ok, i got one from through this pretty cool site i found through alexa. its called invite share and people offer up their invites to beta/invite sites like pownce, joost, etc.  it works pretty well considering i got an invite to pownce in like 5 minutes. if anyone one wants a invite to pownce i got six.

richard buckner with six parts seven and trappers cabin will be playing @ the earl on saturday. i am hoping to be in attendance. i have seen richard a bunch of times but never with a full band. so, this should be pretty damn cool.

i am quite intrigued by trappers cabin - a local atlanta/athens outfit, i assume. i dont know if its one guy or what but judging by the amount of stuff he/they have produced over the past few years he/they are definitely treading into uncle bob waters. some of the stuff is kinda quirky but still very solid. he does a great cover of elliot’s “rose parade” sounds quite a bit like him too.

as much as i am going to miss jason in dbt there is still no denying that they are one of the best bands in rock n roll. this just means cooley will hopefully get more exposure and that is definitely a good thing. any word on a cooley solo record ore when patterson’s new solo is coming out? here they are playing at the high sierra fest in quincy, ca on 7.6.07. thanks to the original taper!

Am going to Drunken Unicorn tomorrow night, will certainly follow up and let you know. Thanks for the Blitzen Trapper download, trying to educate myself on the opener! They’re great too!

    Hey Gregor,
Interesting show, to say the least, and as I told about 30 people via text this morning, of the 50 or so concerts I’ve seen in the past few years, that one ranks in the top three. Easy. First off, Blitzen Trapper is one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen. They’re up there seemingly not trying at all, like they’re at band practice, goofing around, and they still come off tighter than anything. Their songs sound so good live, just a jumbled up mess that sounds somewhere between the Byrds and Pavement (as I’m sure you already know.) Anyway, great live band. They’re coming back with Two Gallants in October. Hope you make that one, since words are obviously failing me in doing last night any justice.
Then Vandervelde. His quartet has a huge, almost Led Zeppelin-sized sound. It’s really weird: Here’s this giant noise coming from this diminutive little guy, really meek while he’s not singing. But the main thing I keep going back to is how fucked up nearly everyone in that place was. It was a tiny crowd, but everyone in the front row was on a different drug it seemed, and the kid on x with his two girlfriends were next to the 50 year old drunk dad that was dancing around all jerky like he was finally letting go in public like he chickened out of at his prom. Then the coked up jock wanted to push all of them around. It kind of killed the vibe of what could’ve been a historically good show. But the encore cover of some Phil Ochs song I couldn’t identify - just David and his guitar - really glazed a nice sheen over the night anyway. Hope this helps!

thanks for the report andy! glad to hear you had a good if not interesting time. the few times i have been to the unicorn the vibe has always been quite odd and im not too sure if i dig it so much. its definitely a younger crowd, which isnt necessarily bad, but they seem more into keeping up with the scene than actually listening to whats going on onstage.
