only after disaster can we be resurrected

one thing i have learned in my scant 34 years here on this rock is that the minute you think you have shit figured or planned out thats when reality slaps ya upside the head and goes “hey not so fast there buddy.” case in point(s) took the car to tires plus for an oil change and inspection, and of fuckin course they come back with i need this and need that. do i have the cash for the this and that? no… luckily they said it could wait a while. that very afternoon i was pulling into my subdivision and i hear a clacking coming from one of my tires and wouldnt you know it, theres a god damn nail in one of em. lovely… thats not even the most annoying happening, but i’ll just stop there and just say the last 72 hours has pretty much busted our budget for this move. rock n roll!!!!!!! hate being such a fuckin buzz kill, but damn if the past 8 months been a son of a bitch.

dave fischoff aka spoolwork has thrown his hat into the radiohead remix challenge with his retooling of the track reckoner off in rainbows. i was not a fan of rainbows, so i am not super familiar with “reckoner” but i can only assume its better than the original. vote for it here.

sup, sluts? so i went and got myself a new laptop. i wasnt planning on it, but the powerbook has been giving me some major issues for the past month or so that was making it increasingly more and more difficult to be mildly productive. the main issue is that it will randomly shut down any browser without notice. now, if i werent in school and having to respond to discussion questions and such it wouldnt be that big of a deal, more of an annoyance. when i spend 20 minutes typing up a post and then it all goes to shit then its an issue. i really, really wanted to get another mac, but honestly its hard justifying spending mac type cash when i can get a pc with better specs for 30-40 percent cheaper. lets be honest, at this point in the game the only major difference is the os, which is a big difference but there are workarounds. so, after reading reviews and such, i got myself this acer, which for 500 bucks is an absolute steal, 2 gigs of ram 160 gig hd, amd athlon 64×2, etc. the thing is blazing fast, even with vista loaded, which actually isnt that bad, but i still plan on dumping it as soon as i can get past this error i keep getting whilst attempting to load the ubuntu live cd. all in all, its a pretty sweet machine and even would be if it cost a grand.

there’s only a few producers i give a shit about, brian deck happens to be one of them. its not like i check out everything he touches, but when i see his name attached to a band or artist, i will definitely give em a listen. thus is the case with champaign’s or is it paris’ la scala? not sure if their eastern european/60’s pop/rock is doing it for me. the sound is big, actually it seems to big for the style. who knows what repeated listens, if there are any, will bring, but i can definitely understand if people dig em.

their brian deck produced ep, the harlequin, is out now, i think.

one record that i can tell you, in good conscience, that is fuckin killer is murder by death’s upcoming red of tooth and claw. this will definitely not be everyone’s thing, for sure, but if you dig johnny cash, the the murderous ballads of nick cave or the gospel thump of 16 horsepower then definitely check these guys and one very lovely lady out.

red of tooth and claw is out on 3.4. pre-order it here.

i have heard my fair share of afghan whigs/twilight singer boots, but this fm broadcast from brussels is one of, if not the best i have heard. my only complaint is that i wish they played the killer earlier in the set so greg’s voice was a little stronger. still a killer version though. btw, it took place @ ancienne belgique on 1.15.04.

hay, hay hay, rog! i wouldnt consider myself to be a fan of one lindsay lohan, but i am a fan of her rack and you can see said rack in all its bountiful glory @ egotastic. she’s attempting to somehow channel marilyn monroe in ny mag, but if you ask me she’s just really, really been wanting to show off that rack.

the past week or so i have rekindled my love affair w/ toots and the maytals’ “pressure drop.” my first exposure to it, like probably most peeps my age was izzy stradlin’s version on his stones/faces inspired 92 debut, which if you have never checked out, you really, really should. here is both toots’ and izzy’s versions.

if you happen to be a amy winehouse fan the men of owl and bear have what i would assume to be a good to great quality recording for your downloading pleasure. if that wasnt enough, they also got wilco, lambchop, nirvana and of montreal shows available.

file this one under, just leave em be. sure most of their early stuff sounds like shit but thats half the allure. anyway, the first three mats records are getting remastered. will i buy em? sure. will i be happy about it? no.
