corky, we love you and we want you to live!

this is another one of those boots that comes with a lot of questions but very few answers - as i am only able to provide one piece of actual info. what i do know, for sure, is that this is rem playing sometime in the 80s. what this supposedly is, is an irs era unreleased live recording of a performance @ page auditorium on 9.25.84 in durham, nc. i have read that it was set to be released on irs but stipe didnt like it and thus got scraped. i also read that there were no plans for a live release during that time. this may also be known in some circles as we are having a heavenly time. as always, if you can shed some light on what this may or may not be it would be appreciated.

in other news, scott bondy, formerly of the great birmingham trio verbena, is prepping the release of his debut under the aa bondy moniker, american hearts on 9.18. judging by the this track it seems as if mr bondy has ditched the trashy stones for a more dylan-esque approach. american hearts was recorded in a new york barn during the dead of winter and it sounds like it.

at this point i hate the iphone much like jerry, elaine, kramer and george hated the drake.

well, looky what we have here. i was pretty pscyed to find after waking up from nine hour slumber that a promotion company was kind enough to send me info on the upcoming adam franklin, ex-swervedriver, record. one thing i found interesting is that this is apparently his seventh non-swervedriver release? six of those being toshack highway releases. where the fuck have i been? i thought there were only like a couple. anyway, you can stream bolts of melody here. i have yet to give a whirl but the two tracks provided to me sound pretty damn good.

just when i thought laura veirs was going to be leading lady for the 07 here comes the ukraine born alina simone to shake things up a bit. she’s not as coy/frail as ms marshall and not as overly dramatic as ms harvey but she stradles both lines quite nicely. i have only listened to her yet to be released record, placenessness, once but it left a huge impression on me - which is rare with first listens. check her out, i know you want be disappointed.

ok first things first. you would think that as a guy that spends 75 percent of his day online that i would have found out about this little piece of dbt news before today. i dont blame jason for leaving the mighty dbt cause quite frankly, if i were him, i would not have been cool with playing third fiddle to patterson and mike, as awesome as they are. in other jason news, his solo record sirens of the ditch is being released on july 1o on new west records. he is streaming three tracks from said record on his myspace page.

in other related dbt news, patterson has contributed a bunch of tracks to the upcoming release, finest worksongs: athens bands play the music of rem. this collection, also featuring the likes of the modern skirts, bain mattox, and the observatory, was recorded during a marathon like concert on 9.12.06 @ the famed 40 watt club in athens. mr stipe, mike mills and peter buck even show up on a few tracks. by the way, the observatory includes most of olivia tremor control, including will hart, members of elf power and circulatory system. buy it here and proceeds go to a couple of athens based charities.
