gotta sweet black angel

it was not until about 1996 that i actually started down my road to appreciating and eventually “getting” the stones. i had always associated the stones with the way over played songs, see “start me up,” “jumpin jack flash,” “satisfaction,” etc, that i had heard for years on the chicago “oldies” stations. in 1996 i started what would be a 7 year gig at a small pr firm. this is where i met the man, lets call him howie, that would put exile in my hand and mildly force me to engulf myself in its magic. sure it took about 4 months for me to actually get around to listening to it, but that really doesnt matter. i was told to only listen to up to “loving cup” and then eventually, and only when i was ready, make my way on to the second half. sure i really didnt heed his advice, but after digesting it in full after a shit load of times, i started to understand what he was trying to convey. stating the obvious here, there is nothing subtle about exile on mainstreet, its the most cocksure record mine ears have ever been graced to hear. sure it’s overblown, mixed like shit, and all over the god damn place, but never has a mess sounded so beautiful. of course, by now most of you have at least listened to exile at least once, but i implore each and everyone of you to listen again. that is, if you dont quite get it yet. or even if you do, listen to it again cause its the rock n roll equivalent of nailin angelina circa billy bob.
here are some of the outtakes from the exile sessions

I agree…The Exile album is a great piece of work, its one of those albums you can go back to over & over again and find something new every time
