sometime last week i woke up with james’ “out to get you” playing in my head. i hadnt listened to laid in probably 5 years or so, but of course i then had to revisit it. cant remember off the top of my head when it came out but i know it was in the early 90’s, but it still sounds really fuckin good. maybe later on today i will whip out the hard drive to find a few tracks from it.

i have come to the decision to start breaking out posts in two categories. the two being shows and new/older stuff. so, when i post a show i wont talk about anything else and when i talk about new and older stuff i wont be posting a show. got it? just thought i’d let ya know. not that it really makes much of a difference, it will just make it easier on me.

any who, here is a lovely recording of rick danko at nightstages in cambridge, mass on 5.14.88. “it makes no difference” is awesome, btw.

Wow, it’s so great to hear Rick in fine vocal form on this nice-sounding boot. I really dig the pedal steel player, but he’s a bit loud in the mix! (Not complaining) Anybody out there know who the steel player might be? Nice vocal harmonizing on this as well. Many tunes I’ve never heard Rick do before. Thanks for posting this lovely bit.

Saw Rick Danko and Levon Helm in DC in the 80s. They were super. Saw Danko in Chicago…He was overweight and did a poor job. A week later, he was dead. I guess he was trying to tell us something.

glad you dig it slidewell - its definitely a fine set. bill, that sucks man. at least you got to see him while he still had some life in him. no pun intended.

Thank you for sharing, Rick Danko was one of a few persons with a gift, he was both happiness and sadness he was free and real, many people should be like him, he has shown us how pain could be turned off with a smile, and how a smile could make feel better yourself and your neighbour.
    Peace.
