in the case of mine, can you read in the dark?
its been quite a while since i have seen grant lee in concert. with such a passage of time, i had forgotten how amazing his voice is, particularly in a live setting. this is mainly due to the sad fact that there aren’t that many glb boots out there. in fact, i have only come across a few that are even worth listening to. the first time i saw grant lee buffalo was when they opened for paul westerberg at the metro many, many moons ago. the sound was sketchy for grant lee’s set, and well paul was paul - entertaining as hell though. the second time, well lets just not mention the second time. i had come pretty undone, but even in my drunken state i will always remember the beautiful version of “honey dont think” that was performed that fateful evening.

Up until now, I had not heard of Grant Lee Buffalo, but I’m liking what I’m hearing.
Similarly, I had never heard of Guided by Voices until I saw your posting of their concert.
Yes..yes..I must have been living under a rock these past 20 years…actually, I can explain it in one sentence: I lived in Southern California in the late ’80s and early ’90s, where synth-powered new wave was the only game in town…

thats cool, steve. at least you are getting hip to those fine bands, now. if you want to investigate further, i would definitely check out grant lee’s mighty joe moon and/or guided by voices’ bee thousand and alien lanes. thanks for stopping by. be well. btw, there are probably a lot worse places to live than southern cali.

I must admit that So Cal is a wonderful place to live (if you don’t mind spending a huge percentage of your income on housing). But, it was tough finding people who loved college rock as much as I did back then. I’d rave about The Replacements or Soul Asylum (pre-Winona Ryder) and get blank looks. Shoot, even R.E.M. was a hard sell among my friends (maybe I hung out with the wrong crowd! For them, it was Depeche Mode this, Erasure that…bleah…I can take them in small amounts, but not for hours on end)

Late to the party here, so I doubt anyone reads this, but it’s nice to find someone with an appreciation for GLB. I was at that show at the Metro, got there early enough to be in the front row with my hand on the stage. I came to see Westerberg (still a God in my eyes), but I was completely blown away by the energy coming from the stage when GLB opened. The next day I went out and bought “Fuzzy”, and have been a HUGE fan ever since.
This is something from the 90´s finest. Thank you for posting it. I love Grant´s work and voice. I haven´t seen him live but I know he is great. GREAT! And that voice…….. I make love to my boyfriend while listening to him.
Thanks for posting this show! I’ve not heard it before now. Been relistening to Mighty Joe Moon recently, tho, and it’s definitely one of my faves. But I think it’s “in the case of minds, can you read in the dark?”
