it’s part of a trilogy, a musical trilogy i’m working on in d minor which is the saddest of all keys, i find
some time between 1990 and 1993 the men of urge overkill figured out the ingredients to graduate from making decent to good records, to making classic rock records - see saturation and enter the dragon. i got into them during the supersonic storybook days, and at very least, thought it was a pretty good record. still not something i listened to a hell of a lot but pulled it out from time to time primarily to listen to “the kids are insane” and “the candidate.” when saturation was released i was completely blown away. it was a huge record, just waiting to be blasted through the hallowed halls of your local arena. where saturation sounds like a band on the verge of superstardom, enter the dragon are the sounds of a band thats road and life weary, having barely made it through fully intact. which may have been a bit prophetic considering that was 13 years ago and there’s no new urge record in sight.
here they are at the metro in june of 93. its a fm broadcast, btw.

Thanks a ton for sharing this show. I’ve never come across any Urge shows online until today. Thanks again!
My first time hearing any UO live too. My journey with the band is the same as yours. Saturation was so killer when it came out. Digital Black Epilouge still makes me wish they had a third album in that time and style. This is great.
Caught UO live opening for Pearl Jam back around 1994, but like Honest Abe, hadn’t run across any live recordings online. Much appreciated.
Thanks soooo much for posting this. Supposedly they are working on coming out with a new album in 08. We will see. I have heard rumblings of this for quite a while.
After seeing this post I listened through all their albums again. What memories. I looked on iTunes and saw that they released a live album a couple years back. Have not listened to it yet. One of the ratings on iTunes said that it was not tight and kinda tired. I will listen to it anyway soon.
I saw them live in Chicago at the metro right after Exit the Dragon came out. Seriously one of the best concerts that I have ever been to. I still think of it fondly and it comes up in conversation with my friends whenever we talk about all the concerts we have been to together. When you think about it they were really counter cultural (musically) for their time. They were competing with and oddly opening up for the anti-glam grunge rockers. Maybe audiences could not identify with their martini swirling galas before their opening acts.
I really wished that there was a huge single on Exit the Dragon to send them to the stardom they that deserved.
Here is to hoping that they come out with another great album that lands them with a top 10 hit and national acclaim.
Yes! Thanks for posting. I too am trying to rock the UO liberty
at my Waved Rumor rock blog.
Yo. Super thanks for this live Urge gig. You get karma points for sure. I’ve got all the tracks and from the sound of things it is a ripping set. Public service going down right here at captainsdead.com.
