play with toys is imo one of the most sadly overlooked records of the past 15 or so years. it’s really a hard record to peg into a genre hole, which makes it that much cooler. listening to play with toys is a lot like locking yourself in your bedroom on a hot summer day, getting stoned and frantically changing cds midway through the songs. its not rap, its not folk, but it has elements of each and is one chilled out trip. i dont think you can tell that this was recorded almost 15 years ago, which is always a sign of classic recording.
