lucero’s the coldwater session

so the family and i are back safe and sound back in the atlanta area. we ended up leaving a day later than expected mostly due to my laziness and dread of sitting in a car for 12 or so hours. all in all it was definitely a better trip than the last time we visited chicago during christmas time. although, within about 12 hours of our arrival i started feeling like shit, which pretty much lasted the whole week. nothing a boat load of booze couldnt remedy.

what i gots here is a collection of lucero songs which is entitled the coldwater sessions which i know nothing about. so, if anyone has any insight on the lineage of this collection please dont hesistate to fill me in.

this can now be found here.

As I understand it from the famous Roy Berry: The Coldwater Sessions is simply a demo tape from the self/titled record’s rough mixes. It has a couple of songs that aren’t on the record.
The songs are mixed differently than the album versions, but are the same takes.

I really appreciate the post. Any Lucero postings are much appreciated and treated as found gold.

According to posts on the Lucero message board, Track 1 is actually titled “Poor Heartache,” and Track 6 is “Was That You I’ve Been Kissin?” (Tracks 3,5,7,8,9, 10,11,12,13 and 14 all were on the band’s first, self-titled album, although in different mixes, as noted above; the others are unreleased demos.)

I have no idea if my forthcoming comment is even slightly accurate, but just a quick comment. I know that Jim Dickinson has a farm and a recording studio right outside of Memphis in Coldwater, MS. I’m guessing that these demos may have been recorded there. I always enjoy your posts, keep up the great work!

Eli, you are correct. That’s where these were recorded. Cody Dickinson was producer for the first record.
