hey thanks! not a bad recording - perhaps a bit too brief. definitely more stripped down than i expected, considering jb’s penchant for layers of sounds & effects. remember summerteeth?

anyway - you should check out blip.fm. it’s addicting.

i have yet to listen to the bennett record, for some reason. most of his stuff is pretty non-wilco-ish isnt it? sadly, i have only checked out a few of his post wilco offerings. i do have a blip acct, but have yet to delve too deeply into. may i ask what is addicting about? i actually walked away feeling slightly confused…

his last effort was pretty poppy and full of stuff, but as a whole it’s not much like wilco. it’s more of the sounds that he was trying like mad to get into wilco, to no avail. summerteeth and YHF are still my two favorite wilco records, largely helped by the hand of jay. nels cline sure can shred though.

anyway - i find blip addicting on the fact that there’s just a seemingly endless amount of tunes there, and it beats actually working. it’s a distraction from responsibility i suppose.

I felt Wilco retained their soul without him, but it was sad to see/hear all the band turmoil and no doubt it’d be better if they didn’t have that awful episode. But all of it won’t change the fact I’ll remain a Wilco fan while questioning Bennett’s solo career.

i agree with you tony - i don’t feel that they lost their soul. rather, they just jettisoned a particular musical direction/indulgence that they had been using for a while - the studio as instrument. focus has more been on musicianship - group interplay. however, i have read that their next release (possibly due spring ‘09) is a return to the studio gimmicks…
