nipples for men?!?

watched moore’s sicko last evening and while it really doesnt break any new informational ground, it does succeed in exposing the health care providers as the social/economic leaches they are. of course he also sheds light on the fact of how it easy it is for the health care industry to pretty much just buy off the same people that are supposed to be looking out for our own good, our elected officials. it just saddens me that for all the good this movie can do nothing will change - i do hope one day maybe in my sons lifetime.
i always find it a little difficult getting behind a dj/producers record but chicago based dj/producer/multi-instrumentalist, copperpot, brings together a bunch of excellent artists for his sophomore disc, wyla?, that its kinda hard not to. any time krs one shows up on wax you kinda have to stand up and take notice, as he does on three tracks on wyla?. copperpot also brings members of tortoise into the fold for some interesting/mixed results.
come back home feat krs one
let it go feat truth enola
it pains/pisses me off to even think about the current state of liz phair. i had planned a lengthy diatribe on the subject of miss phair, but the first sentence pretty much sums it up.
here she is playing during the good ol’ days of 1995 at skank hall in fabulous milwaukee on 4.21.

Thank you so much for these old Liz live songs.
Yeah, too bad about her current situation, but I have hope that she’ll yet make good music (if she does it’ll probably be whitechocolatespaceegg-like, which was indeed a good album)
I find it funny when people used to complain she was bad live. I think in the old bootlegs she sounds really good. Her nervousness of performing live only adds to the charm.
i would not mind, at all, another whitechocolatespacegg which is a fantastic record. i have seen her roughly 10 times and was never disappointed by any of her shows. actually, i take that back. she did three nights at the vic, in chicago, and i went the first two evenings. what did she do? she played the same freakin set both evenings. sure the performances were great but come on! i have not seen her since.
What an awesome show!! Thanks for posting.
Ach, all this Liz-bashing is sooo tired and so misplaced. She must be the most under-rated rock musician of our time, and it’s a shame. Everyone loved her as a slutty 20-something with a 4-track and a guitar, but can’t handle her as a slutty 30-something with musical ambitions and abilities that extend far beyond the preciously traded lo-fi bootleg tapes of yore. I love her old stuff too, but to ignore the continuing quality of her recent work is perverse trend-slavery at best, and at worst an example of that special brand of sexism that draws self-righteous vitriol from men and women alike. She remains one of the most distinctive vocalists, finest rock guitarists, and best songwriters working today, despite the shallow criticism recited in groupthink unison by people who can’t hear beyond their prejudice. For proof, lend an unbiased ear to “Red Light Fever” and “My Bionic Eyes” from her self-titled 2003 album, or “Lazy Dreamer” and “Somebody’s Miracle” from the 2005 Somebody’s Miracle album, to name a few recent highlights.
BTW, can you tell that this is one of my musical pet peeves? I now return to my usual state of universal love and kindness.
i dont think claiming that her new songs sucks compared to her first three records is sexist at all. its the truth.
i can handle, and actually welcome, a slutty 30something liz if her songs were on par with her back catalogue. part of her problem is that she has recently worked with shitty top 40 producers and have glossed over her once, dare i say “edgy” sound.
you’re right it is tired, but its only cause we care.
