so, i have vowed for remainder of the year i am not going to listen to anything new, thus wont be writing about anything new, and try to devote some time to some of the records i neglected throughout the year. stuff like dinosaur jr’s beyond, great lake swimmers’ ongiara, bill callahan’s woke on a whaleheart, etc.. and few records that were sent to me like the dimes, clear tigers, and polynya. shit, i may even try to get into sky blue sky or we were dead before the ship even sank - both being my two most disappointing records of the year, and actually two of the most disappointing of the past few year.
speaking of wilco, did you guys hear they are doing a 5 night stint, feb 15, 16, 18, 19 and 20th at the riv and will be “exploring” their entire catalogue with each night having a different set list? would be cool if they just performed each record in full with accompanying b sides and other shit that didnt make it on each respective record. more details here.
i think it was a week or so before the oscars one which elliott performed, that i was at the empty bottle seeing the brian jonestown massacre when i had planned to purchase tickets to elliott’s upcoming gig at the bottle. before the jonestown show i inquired at the bar about tickets and was informed that it had sold out which as far as me and the bartender could conclude was all due to the success of “miss misery” in that god damn affleck/damon movie. i was high pissed. the previous times i had seen him there was always a decent crowd but not really close to being sold out. needless to say, i never got a chance to see him again. you would have thunk that during the next 6 years i would have seen him again, but no, i am a lazy fucker.
