please baby jesus shine a light on us

Written by gregor on February 3rd, 2007 in stupid shit, tunes.

ok, so i am preparing to bust out my black and orange zubazz that may or may not be 3 sizes to small. considering the last time i wore them was 1987. the way i look at is this. firstly, people will get a great and enhanced view of my junk due to the extreme tightness of said zubazz. secondly, it maybe another 20 years before i get to bust them out again and at that time i will be 52 thus making it oh so creepy. on top of the zubazz i got my “monsters of the midway” foam finger, a ditka shirt portraying him as jesus, a bears helmet that conveniently holds chips and salsa, and my good luck saint singletary charm. if there is a god in heaven, he will look down on the bears and their fans and grant them just one more victory in what has already been a season full of heavenly miracles. also, i dont think i can take any more 85 bears references. seriously, its time to move on people.

this can now be found here

Thanks for the Springsteen tracks! I think I have them all, but what great stuff.

The first Springsteen vinyl bootleg I ever heard was the legendary “E Ticket” which had some of these tracks. At the time I was in college, and while I liked the Born To Run album, I was a little sick of all of the NY/NJ kids going on and on and on about Springsteen. What about Elvis Costello, I thought? Then I heard that bootleg and was floored, especially by the acoustic “Thunder Road”. Holy smoley, this guy wasn’t just some pseudo-greaster, but a real artist. I played the cassette I made of that bootleg all summer and all the next year.

    Thanks.

    Bruce

P.S. Go Bears, please beat Peyton “Look At Me, Dad” Manning.

I first heard Born To Run in 1975 and it was a cover by Allan Clarke who played with Graham Nash in the Hollies in the UK. My brother, who’s three years younger than I am, was into Springsteen from the start - and in those days import vinyl from the US was big bucks! Somehow Springsteen just passed me by until I heard the majestic original version of Born to Run. Big reminders of getting married and setting up home away from our parents. Sadly the marriage didn’t last, but many happy memories of the song and the man.

Great tunes! I can never get enough Springsteen. Thanks!

(Sorry about your Bears though. Time to dump Grossman I think)

Now is not the time to say I am a Packers fan, I suppose–but I know what it’s like for your team to lose a Super Bowl (as Green Bay did nine years ago, and I’m still pissed), so I know your pain. Karmically, however, by putting up these Springsteen tracks, everything will be OK.

i have the feeling that its going to be a while before we see the bears back in the superbowl. of course this is all dependent on how rex does the first half of the season. if he doesnt do well, bring in greise and see where he can guide them. if anywhere. i was psyched to see favre coming back this season. its so hard to root against that guy.

Aaaaaugh! The name that must not be mentioned…

As a die-hard Broncos fan, I can say with 100% certainty that you do NOT want Griese running your team!

He’s a noodle-armed QB that couldn’t throw the ball more than 25 yards without floating it. He’ll get eaten alive!

  • gregor on February 7th, 2007 at 7:07 pm

i know, i know, but you got to work with what you got. i am hoping that rex pulls it all together. i, and a collective we, have to keep in mind that this was his first full season, and he did take them to the super bowl. not a lot of qb’s can say that.
