the couch monster is eating you
this came as a wee bit of a surprise to me, for unfortuantely i dont keep up on my alan sparhawk news as i should. so, when i came across his new band, retribution gospel choir, i was pretty psyched to hear that he was still puttin stuff out cause with all the low shit that went on i figured he was haggin it up or at very least takin a break. i am on listen number 3 of their self titled debut, and at this point its everything that i wanted low to be, but never was. granted i liked low, but their records, as a whole, were kind of a drag and drawn out. this sparhawk incarnation is the complete opposite. the guitar work is reminiscent of low, but the songs are concise and fuckin rock. definitely check this out when it comes out on the 18th. it comes out on mr kozelek’s caldo verde label.
