seeing this, this being an upcoming silkworm documentary, kinda made me feeling quite nostalgic and even a little misty-eyed. listening to everyone from albini to malkmus to robbie fulks to adam reach(touch n’ go) speaking, so eloquently and passionately, the words that i have always thought, but couldn’t quite articulate, started me thinking about their music quite a bit. i know their footprint on musical history is quite small, but their impact, to the people that love em, is huge. the strange thing about silkworm is that they sound like no one and no one sounds like them - which is quite the feat considering they’re a 3 piece with nothing more than your standard guitar, bass and drums setup. what made them incredibly special is that, like fulks said in the trailer, “there’s no costumes, there’s no act, there’s no schtick.” they were just three dudes that made incredibly heartfelt and honest music no matter how deep you had to scratch to get there.
more info on the silkworm documentary couldn’t you wait can be found here and here on myspace. also, here is a collection of interviews including tweedy, malkmus and albini.
here is a brief introduction to the silkworm catalogue, most of which can be found on emusic or get off yr lazy arse and get down to your local shop and pick up an album or two. what a novel fucking idea.
