dead or alive, you are coming with me

sup, tards? anything going on this weeks end? me? i got nothin, except a whole lot of studying and hopefully a few beers thrown in along the way.

been listening to the new grand archives record for the past couple of days and have had an interesting time with it, thus far. after spinning just the first couple of tracks i was kinda left feeling a little down, but as the album marched forward, the better it got. which, of course, is usually quite the opposite of most records. still, i am kinda iffy on the first few tracks, but as the listen count rings up, i am sure i will come around. maybe i was just unfairly wishing, hoping and expecting a band of horses type record, which its not. its more carissa’s wierd than boh, which is just fine with me.

their sub pop debut is landing on 2.19.08

i got an email a while back from a dear reader, that i accidentally deleted in a mass purging of my inbox, that recommended i check out seattle’s fleet foxes. or atleast i think someone emailed me about em. never mind my shitty memory, fleet foxes bring to mind 70’s am radio, if only i had ever heard 70’s am radio. so, i guess they sound like what i think it would sound like. now, they aint retro by any means, they just got this latter day vibe to em. they recently signed to sub pop and i think you can buy their full length and ep via their myspace page - i think. man, i have covered 3 sub pop bands in the past two days. i cant deny they put out quality stuff.

i have to admit, i enjoy watching nascar. its a great sunday afternoon, about ready to take a nap tv. one thing i dont understand though is the difference between the busch and the nextel leagues/cups? there were two races this weekend from bristol, tn and was confused on the differences between the two. so, if any of you can explain the difference to me it would be greatly appreciated.

in the face of having to get ready for work in less than 45 minutes tonites offering comes with very little information on my part. thus i look to you fine folks to hopefully hook me up. it is an arcade fire demo record entitled 2001.

hey everybody! free tvs!

worst band name in history, or at least pretty damn close. kiss the anus of a black cat hail which from gent, belguim is the brain child of stef heeren. i am hoping that the name is derived from some regional inside joke. oddly enough their name aptly fits the music. its an interesting blend of arcade fire style emotional outcries, and an even more apocalyptic version of david eugene edwards work with woven hand. their new record an interlude to the outermost was released a couple of weeks ago and i am unsure if its available anywhere but i am sure you can purchase it directly through his site.

keep the car running

in case you fell asleep or whatever, here are the two arcade fire performances from last evenings snl - which was not that funny, sadly. they performed “intervention” and “keep the car running.” i was confused by the awkward guitar smashing at the end of “intervention.”

ladies and gentlemen, we are rummaging through the garbage

anyone happen to catch bill gates on the daily show last evening? i was quite suprised on how awkward the whole interview went down. one would think that if an individual was planning on going onto either the daily show or colbert, they would either a. have some kind of sense or humour or b. be quick witted. bill gates was neither of these, but i guess when you are bill gates you dont have to be. still, it was quite odd especially when he bolted off stage while they were still on camera. there are a few early reviews in on vista, some good, some bad, some indifferent. i played with it a bit at bestbuy the other day, and my initial reaction was “so what?” granted thats a pretty sophmoric reaction, but there was truly nothing outside of the animated wallpaper that would make me want to upgrade. although, if i had an intel mac i would maybe invest in it.? check out this post over at gizmodo.? it piqued my interest quite a bit.

it took about 6 months and a shit load of convincing from kyle over there at more cowbell to make me a believer in the arcade fire. i listened the hell outta funeral to little personal fanfare during that estimated time frame. i dont know when, specifically, i started diggin on funeral but i can almost say with 90% certaintity that my new found appreciation was fueled by either a. beer or b. vodka. the most excellent things in my life have been discovered under the influence of the above liquids, see my wife and child for evidence. while i would like to consider myself a mid-size arcade fire fan, i have yet to listen to any of the leaked tracks off of the yet to be released disc. i’ll get around to it one of these days, i am sure of it.

here they are playing at first avenue in minneapolis on 9.29.05 - great recording, btw.
