sup, tards? anything going on this weeks end? me? i got nothin, except a whole lot of studying and hopefully a few beers thrown in along the way.

been listening to the new grand archives record for the past couple of days and have had an interesting time with it, thus far. after spinning just the first couple of tracks i was kinda left feeling a little down, but as the album marched forward, the better it got. which, of course, is usually quite the opposite of most records. still, i am kinda iffy on the first few tracks, but as the listen count rings up, i am sure i will come around. maybe i was just unfairly wishing, hoping and expecting a band of horses type record, which its not. its more carissa’s wierd than boh, which is just fine with me.

their sub pop debut is landing on 2.19.08

i got an email a while back from a dear reader, that i accidentally deleted in a mass purging of my inbox, that recommended i check out seattle’s fleet foxes. or atleast i think someone emailed me about em. never mind my shitty memory, fleet foxes bring to mind 70’s am radio, if only i had ever heard 70’s am radio. so, i guess they sound like what i think it would sound like. now, they aint retro by any means, they just got this latter day vibe to em. they recently signed to sub pop and i think you can buy their full length and ep via their myspace page - i think. man, i have covered 3 sub pop bands in the past two days. i cant deny they put out quality stuff.

captains dead’s top 13 records of the ‘07

i listened to a lot of records this year, probably too many for my own damn good. i tend to obsess over records over extended periods of time. this personality defect doesn’t really lend itself well to giving other, obsessive worthy records the ability to firmly plant themselves into my brain. so, here are my 13 favorite, see most obsessed over, records of 2007.

sup? so band of horses are doing a three night stand at the earl, 12.28 -30. you can pre-order the tickets here or wait until they go on sale to the general public next week. the choice is yours. visit the earl’s site for more info.

i reposted the first half of pavement’s stuff up the cracks comp over here.

anyone excited about the new season of project runway? not only do i love me some heidi klum, tim gunn is freakin awesome/hilarious. btw, it starts on wed, 11.14. take a look at this years cast. chris looks he’s going to be a real trouble maker or something.

my man, mike doughty, has a new record entitled golden delicious coming out on 2.18.08, which seems like a hella long way away. i mention this because last night, in chicago, he started his “the question jar show” tour. on this shortish tour he will take requests and answer any and all questions placed into the question jar. if anyone went to the show at schubas last night let me know how it was. even though there isnt an atlanta show, i am still curious. he plays tomorrow evening in louisville @ phoenix hall tavern. check his site for a list of dates. here is the first single from golden delicious.

andy ditzler is normally not my cup of tea, but there is something oddly endearing about him and his spoken word take on pop music. he kinda falls somewhere in between stephin merritt and ben folds, but more on the folds end of the spectrum. his songs are fun and smart, but not hokey like fun or pretentiously smart. check him out..

while i got you here, check out capgun coup’s “fucked.” pfork gushed all over it, or so i have been told, which doesnt mean anything to me, but its still a pretty cool tune.

somewhere nestled in my top 5 favorite bands is superchunk. shit, i named my damn kid after mac - if that tells you anything. creepy? maybe. so, i was pretty damn psyched when this show from 93 showed up on dime. i dont know why, but i dont think i have ever come across a superchunk show. maybe i just dont hang in the right corners of the interwebs. if anyone has a hook up let me know.

here they are in krefeld, germany on 5.30.93

women weaken legs!

top of the early, early morning to you all. i got my ipod back yesterday. thank god. now apparently they repaired it by installing the latest firmware - which was already installed, but whatever. as long as it works that’s all i really care about. the fuckers did erase everything though which i was not psyched to find. all my music is spread across like 4 or 5 harddrives and now having to find everything is going to be a bitch. mostly cause im lazy.

the race for record o’ the year is really heating up. i have truly fallen in love with the everybodyfield’s nothing is okay. its one of those records where if you just hear a single you’re like “yeah this is cool” but maybe thats as far as you go. the record, as a whole, is a wonderful piece of work. a real gem, if i may use that phrase. others in close contention are cease to begin, sirens of the ditch, none shall pass, the shepherds dog and pride. at this point i would really be hard pressed to pick a favorite. everyone of them possesses something totally different that i feel some kind of connection to. something awesome better not come out within the next couple months. i dont know if my brains can handle it.

in case you missed it the first time around here are a couple of everybodyfields and phosphorescent tracks.

back when i saw isbell at the park tavern one of the openers, pasadena out of atlanta, really got my ears piqued. i think everyone around the house kinda felt the same way too. the joint was pretty noisey but once they kicked into their whiskeytown/wilco am era fueled set everyone started to take notice. they had a great stage presence, that if it was fueled by whiskey and beer it would not surprise me. they put on a great show and finished it up with whiskeytown’s “hard luck story.” which if you didnt know any better you could have sworn they were the real deal. they just finished up recording and the record should be out sometime next year. this one song from said untitled record.
