ok, bear grylls is fuckin crazy. granted, i know not everything on man vs wild may be what it seems, but even still, he’s one bad mofo. one episode he’s in alaska and he needs to eat. so, what does he do? he goes fishing and catches a trout, but instead of cooking it he takes a big bite out of it while it is still wiggling around in his hands. then in another episode he drinks the water out of elephant shit. of course he also demonstrates how to get yourself out of quicksand, kill fish with toxins from a certain plant, build rafts, etc just in case you ever find yourself in a situation requiring any of the mentioned. definitely check it out man vs wild on the discovery channel if you get the chance.
my brain is confused on whether i really dig or really dislike italy’s jennifer gentle. they play a really odd blend of “indie” pop, 13th floor elevators style psychedelia, and something else i cant quite put my finger on. again, its interesting to a point but also kind of annoying but also kind of endearing. i dont know. they got a new record coming out on tuesday on sub pop entitled the midnight room.

i am becoming increasingly excited about seeing the transformers - not only cause i grew up playing with em but because it looks badass. i am sure it will be the only movie i actually see in the theatres this summer. consider this over the past 4 years i have only gone to the show to see return of the king and night in the museum. i used to go quite often, at least 3 or 4 times a month, but i find paying 30-40 bucks when all is said and done to be quite the turn off to actually visiting a theatre. although, i have been itching to see knocked up which i hear is fantastic. any of you seen it yet?

i have come to the realization that no matter where you go throughout the country, if you sit in outfield you will run across the most obnoxious fans. its both humorous and quite annoying. dude you like jeff francoeur? oh i couldnt tell. i must have missed the tell tale signs including the personalized francoeur jersey on top of the francoeur t shirt. same goes to you “guy with the the over abundant amounts of smoltz garb.” you would think you would hold off wearing their uniform until they were actually fuckin playing?! who the hell am i? i still wear my 15 year old lou whitaker jersey like i am trying to prove something.
saltbreakers the recent release by songstress laura veirs is my first foray into her music and man am i lovin it. shes definitely filling a void most recently held, but constantly disappointed, by the likes of beth orton and liz phair. she reminds me of a female version of the highly under appreciated michael penn.
just dont lose yourself
for those of you who are steps ahead of me in terms of laura’s music, are all her records pretty solid?
one thing i miss is the short lived lo-fi movement of the early-mid nineties. i loved the intimacy of those 4 track recordings. one lady that is keeping that torch sorta lit is portland, oregon resident shelby sifers and her recently released, run around run around - a lovely, yet simple record. sometimes thats all you need or can ask for.
