viva, viagra!

honestly i did think too much of dr dog for a while but something clicked in me with the release of we all belong. i think it was the weird combination of beatles, squeeze, the band and beach boys influences that was throwing me all off. not so much that those are strange influences, but the way they weave them into their sound is odd. they got a new one called fate coming out on july 22 and judging by my first 2-3 listens i would summise that this definitely my favorite dr dog record thus far. all those influences are definitely still alive and kicking but they’ve incorporated an even more an old timey vibe.

i have been going back and listening to stuff that i havent for a while. one record that keeps popping up is catfish haven’s 06 release, tell me. its such a great little record and if you are fan of the above mentioned band you should definitely dig these dudes. i should have put this on my summer records of 08 thing, or at very least an honorable mention.

the other record(s) i have been really gettin back into is the beulah catalague. probably havent listened to them in a few years, and after hearing shit loads of “indie pop” bands come and go over the past 5 years since its really hard to deny that a lot of these bands, and i mean a lot, have absolutely aped their sound for better or worse.
