god is going to sit this one out

my stomach’s got the funk! dont know what to attribute it to. it was either the double quarterpounder, yesterday afternoon, the two sloppy joes last evening, or the ramen noodles even later last evening. whatever it is, its got me in its grasp. love, love, love feeling nauseous and everything associated with feeling as such.

still havent gotten around to going through the matthew sweet contest entries, but will get to that later today. lord willing..

so, here is what i thought was a bunch of rare live bruce tracks, but i have no idea now cause the associated text file is completely different. but, i figured i would still post it since i had uploaded everything. regardless of what it is, thanks to the compiler. until later…

miracles of modern science

morning, fine people. check out the gospel according to bruce.
as a guy that used to write press releases for a living for 8/9 years i always assumed that my releases were going unread and always wondered why i even put so much effort into em. it was really because my clients felt that their respective “news” was so fuckin awesome that they deemed wordy/over the top press release necessary. now that i am on the other side of the table, i know that press releases are pretty much pointless cause i dont read em. as stated many times before i look for keywords, which brings me to brooklyn’s miracles of modern science. keywords that caught mine eye, “orchestral” “space pop” and “mandolin.” seeing as i dig orchestrated space pop featuring the mandolin, i was anxious to check em out. i navigated to their myspace page, and wouldnt you know it. they dress up in fuckin costumes! fuckin a! i am not a fan of costumes, i must add. but, i was bound determined not to let the flash gordon inspired garb to deviate me from my initial goal. as it turns out my fears were unwarranted cause they make a very cool racket, but can ya blame me for being a little skeptical? they definitely rock the stringed instruments but i find them to be more orchestral pop than spacey orchestral pop. thats really neither here nor there, but if you happen to be a fan of andrew bird, final fantasy or maybe even broken social scene then these young lads should be to your liking.

they are working on a new ep which should be out sooner than later.

sup? sup? hay atlantan’s the lineup for this year’s corndogorama @ lenny’s has been unleashed and it looks to be pretty great. its going on june 26 -29 and i will definitely be hitting up the shows on the 28, or so i think at this moment. i may have to rest up for the waits show on sunday. otherwise it should be a killer weeked of music related debauchery. speaking of waits and knoxville, are there any hotels near, preferably walking/stumbling distance to where he is playing?

in an interesting turn of listening events, i find the much ballyhooed flight of the conchords record to be completely unfunny and really quite shitty - maybe i expected too much. on the flip side, i wasn’t expecting much from the cool kids the bake sale but its pretty dope - is that term even used any more? if not it should be reincarnated. anyway, definitely diggin and appreciating the old school beats and laid back lyrical flow. not to take anything away from the bake sale, but i can only assume that the target audience, intentional or not, is hipsters and aging white hipsters who remember what hip hop used to be. will hardcore black hip hop fans buy into what they are selling? this is definitely more of a crossover from the hipster sect into the hip hop world instead of vice versa.

captains dead’s top 13 records of the ‘07

i listened to a lot of records this year, probably too many for my own damn good. i tend to obsess over records over extended periods of time. this personality defect doesn’t really lend itself well to giving other, obsessive worthy records the ability to firmly plant themselves into my brain. so, here are my 13 favorite, see most obsessed over, records of 2007.

brutal.jpg

i was so psyched last evening/early morning for comedy central played like a 6 episode block of insomniac. that was seriously a great show, and i dont think anyone could have pulled that off better than attell. he had the uncanny ability to make people look like total assholes while keeping said asshole completely oblivious. probably cause they were always drunk.

speaking of assholes, i am going to take my kid to see asshole santa tomorrow @ criminal records sometime between the hours of 12 - 6. should be a good time. check out the pics from last year.

the cover art for clear tiger’s brutal could be described as “frightening” or very least “mildly disturbing.” it conjures up a whole bunch of emotions, and really none of them being positive. firstly, i hate animal masks and secondly i dont like horses - i think they are inherently evil creatures. now, knowing that little nugget of information about yours truly, their depiction of an asexual being wearing some kind of fetish-like garment, face covered by an evil cat mask, riding a horse with its shlong in full view and brandishing a gun is purely disturbing, at least to me.

honestly, i went into this listening experience with little to no expectations and actually a little unnerved. to say i was more than pleasantly surprised is an understatement. brutal is a record that is devoid of any kind of pretensions and is simply just a great pop record with unconventional sensibilities. fans of animal collective, panda bear, the elephant 6 collective, oakley hall, talking heads, and probably the arcade fire would definitely dig this.
