this is cracker soul

afternoon/evening, tards! anyone got any plans worth mentioning for the weeks end? we were going to head out to columbia, to check it out, but while i have been told by two people i got the gig, i still dont have anything in writing. so, until i hear officially that we will be moving i dont even want to bother, especially when driving 300 miles, one way, is involved. although, we have been eyeing this house as it has popped up on craigslist a few times. dont know if we can deal with two bedrooms though. so, hopefully we will hear something next week, hopefully.

one band that i for some reason or another have fallen out of touch with is cracker. i cant even tell ya what they released after 98’s gentleman’s blues. regardless, i still have an affinity for the catalogue i do own. for those that follow em, hows their recent catalogue? if you happen to be in the area of pioneertown, ca, or are just looking for a road trip, check out the details for the 4th annual cracker/camper van beethoven campout, which looks pretty awesome.

here they be playing at ziggys in winston-salem, nc on 2.3.94.

sup peoples? hey if you are in atlanta or within the vicinity and wanna win tickets to see cracker and dead confederate on 5.2, head on over to rich at cable and tweed to enter to win a pair.

texan austin collins the rainbirds’ roses are black has been quietly making its way into daily listening routine for the past month - dont think i am just noticing this! i have been on the lookout for some new countryish/rootsy rock records for a while, since some of my typical go-to’s have been getting a bit stale as of late - see whiskeytown and son volt catalogues, and there is only so much burrito brothers stuff i can listen to. roses are black has definitely been filling that void, nicely. its a great chill out, drinkin on the back/front porch in the middle of a summer day kinda record. this is not to say roses are black is one dimensional, oh contraire my good people, collins is a hell of songwriter there’s no doubt about it. forgot to mention that roses are black was produced by will johnson of centro-matic. btw, dual hawks is phenomenal.

are mash-ups still all the rage? i remember they were for like a second, but havent heard much on the subject for awhile. i always kinda held the mind set that if i could do it, then it really wasnt worth even thinking about. with that said, some dude that goes by dj axel has a new all mash-up record entitled breakin the law. the only reason i mention is cause the lead track is made up of a couple of my favorite songs from the 80’s, jj fad’s “supasonic,” and salt n pepa’s “push it.” he then ruins it by adding fergie into mix. fuckin meh.

pushitfergasonic

honestly, i have not been a fan of the last two flaming lips records. they both had a couple of great tracks but it was too much style and not enough substance. while i appreciate where they are going, i got off at the last stop. i much prefer the soft bulletin, transmissions, clouds taste metallic and hit to death days.

here they are playing in stockholm, sweeden on 5.2.06. its an fm broadcast, btw.
