hola amigos! there’s a pretty righteous instore going on today at criminal, for those of you in the atlanta area. seminal trashy grunge party rockers, supersuckers, are playing, like i said at criminal, @ 7 pm-ish. they are part of the so-co fest thats going on tomorrow at centennial olympic park - its free and the gates open at 3 pm. the only other band that i have heard of that is performing is against me - liked their first two, the last one not so much. here’s a few supersucker tracks.

hayden’s in town and field came out a few weeks back, which i absolutely forgot about until i visited aquarium drunkard yesterday. as with a lot of records its been on the ipod, but haven’t given it much time for some bullshit reason. so, gave it a couple of spins last night and its quite good. it’s definitely not my favorite, that belongs to skyscraper national park, but it’s a nice listen. if you are a neil young fan, you will probably dig hayden.

pick up a few hayden records on eMusic. they have a 50 free download special goin on right now, btw.

i, admittedly, dont know much, outside of blister and add it up, about the violent femmes. whilst in college i used to sleep with a young lady that loved the femmes, but wouldn’t let her listen to them in my presence - yeah i used to be a major pain in the ass. so, when i stumbled across this femmes show from hamburg, germany on 2.7.84, i figured i would finally give em a chance. pretty cool stuff i must admit and for any femmes fan, which one is their best?

1. girl trouble

2. good feeling

3. blister in the sun

4. promise

5. flamingo baby

6. hallowed ground

updated the captains dead muxtape, here.

today is national record store day, and i for one will be heading down to criminal to witness the days festivities - which should be pretty awesome. there’s two stages, indoor and outdoor, with the outdoor stage kicking off at about 1 pm. check out criminal’s site for the entire rundown, but playing the outdoor stage, the coathangers go on @ 6, anna kramer @ 7 and playing indoors are dead confederate @ 5.30 and hope foragoldensummer @ 7.30. i want to reiterate that there are plenty more bands taking part. check the link above for the shops in yr area that are participating in record store day.

patton oswalt pretty much summed up the whole record store experience with this little quip..

“The idea of, ‘The journey is the destination’ is put into action by browsing in an indie record store. Besides, a human being is a much better guide than a ‘More Like This’ link on the internet.”

i was so psyched last evening/early morning for comedy central played like a 6 episode block of insomniac. that was seriously a great show, and i dont think anyone could have pulled that off better than attell. he had the uncanny ability to make people look like total assholes while keeping said asshole completely oblivious. probably cause they were always drunk.

speaking of assholes, i am going to take my kid to see asshole santa tomorrow @ criminal records sometime between the hours of 12 - 6. should be a good time. check out the pics from last year.

the cover art for clear tiger’s brutal could be described as “frightening” or very least “mildly disturbing.” it conjures up a whole bunch of emotions, and really none of them being positive. firstly, i hate animal masks and secondly i dont like horses - i think they are inherently evil creatures. now, knowing that little nugget of information about yours truly, their depiction of an asexual being wearing some kind of fetish-like garment, face covered by an evil cat mask, riding a horse with its shlong in full view and brandishing a gun is purely disturbing, at least to me.

honestly, i went into this listening experience with little to no expectations and actually a little unnerved. to say i was more than pleasantly surprised is an understatement. brutal is a record that is devoid of any kind of pretensions and is simply just a great pop record with unconventional sensibilities. fans of animal collective, panda bear, the elephant 6 collective, oakley hall, talking heads, and probably the arcade fire would definitely dig this.

those three lines, eloquently sum up my early to mid 20’s experience. a time filled with insecurity, indifference, anger and uncertainty than i actually care to admit. i am not lying when i say that sebadoh’s bakesale put(s) all that shit in perspective and helped me get through a lot of shit. its like a self help record for wayward music dorks. while those days are gone, there is no doubt that bakesale is a classic of the utmost importance - at least to me.

name’s ed, ed harley

that was by far the lamest transformer, but yet i loved it so.  anyone going to see transformers tomorrow or over the weeks end? i am hoping to make it out on friday or sunday, or actually whenever my wife lets me.  my house is not so much a dictatorship as it is i have to use my “get out jail” cards wisely.  as much as i love my son, having a child really puts a damper on my going out and fuckin around time.

anyone going to see isbell next week at either the in store @ criminal or the show @ the earl? i will be hitting up both, lord willing.

not in the mood to talk about anything rignt now, but will instead encourage everyone to listen to the kamikaze hearts oneida road if you havent already.  in case you didnt know it was my favorite record of 2006 and tis quite amazing.  please do check em out.

i’ll let you in on a little secret, i am none too bright.  i have been using wordpress for almost two years now and just realized there was a “continue reading this post, break option.”  yeah its right there next to the photo button, the photo button i use every day.  anyway, you will begin seeing that continuation notification if i feel a post is getting rather lengthy.  shit, you guys know how this stuff works.

since i am on a live wilco kick as of late.  here they are playing at bogarts in cincinnati on 11.5.99.  this is a particularly awesome show.  part two will be posted later today.  the show is after the break.

there will be no talk of pinkies!

for those in atlanta, on july 10 jason isbell will be doing an instore @ criminal at 7 pm before his show at the earl. i will attempt to remind everyone as we get closer to the date, but mark it in your calendars or keep it in your lock box in the most likely case i forget.

you like the stones, right? then you probably even like the faces? or maybe even a little skynyrd? what about the burrito bros? yeah, me too! then these dudes outta canada, lions in the street are going to freakin rip whatever joint you happen to be inhabitating at the time. the beauty behind their ep, cat got your tounge is that its not in the business of making you question what they are all about. the goats head soup era “already gone” kicks shit off something fierce and leaves the rock n roll stranglehold on ya until “your gonna lose” closes out the ep 4 songs later. sometimes, i really dont wanna think, i just wanna fuckin strum my pant leg and sing into my imaginary mic. if lions in the street dont wanna make you do as such then you are dead to me. btw, cat got your tounge can be downloaded for free via their site. in case you need convincing here are two tracks from their ep.

its a damn shame that michael penn has to go through life mostly identified as sean and chris’ brother and/or mr aimee mann. michael has been releasing amazing records since 1989’s march, which contained the out of left field hit “no myth.” he’s an artist that i would have a hard time saying one record is better than the other cause they are all fantastic. although, resigned is my favorite.

here he is peforming in northampton, ma on 5.307. thanks to the original taper!
