my ipod has died. long live my ipod! in a bit of foresight on my part, i ordered the new 160 gigger when they were announced, but my better judgement weighed in and helped me decide that i didnt necessarily need a new ipod. i tried to tell my better judgement to mind its own fuckin business, but he’s a strong son of a bitch. so, luckily i had bought the protection care thing a couple of years back. i am kinda glad it went out when it did cause the warranty was going to run out in 42 days, and now i am supposed to be receiving a new one or i guess a refurbed. no matter as long as i get one back. although, apple totally pissed me off after it was suggested to me by the people in their warranty dept that i contact my local apple store because they supposedly should have been able to replace it for me. when i called the apple store at north lenox in atlanta i spoke a woman that would neither confirm nor deny that they had a back stock of 5th gen ipods. i didnt want to make the trip there unless i knew for sure that they could supply me with a new one as the people in the warranty dept claimed they would be able to do. she was a total pain in the ass that i eventually just hung up on her - something i really hate doing but she was so freakin irksome that it just had to be done. so for the next seven - ten days i am using my sprint supplied lg muziq. its really not any kind of substitute, but i have about 200 songs on a 2 gig micro sd card that will suffice for now. one awesome thing is that i still am receiving unlimited music downloads, thanks to sprint, and they really do have a pretty great selection, surprisingly.
two gallants play this fine evening @ drunken unicorn. i have yet to hear their new record but their previous, what the toll tells, is really great. i have been told that they are an aquired taste, i dont think so, but its probably due in large part to the dramatic story telling nature of their chosen genres, a sub species of americana and folky punk. their new self titled record is out, now.

ok, so there’s this hoosier now brooklynite, aaron stout, that’s releasing his 2004 debut, queens live in caskets, in 2007. not too sure what has happened the past 3 years that would delay its release in the states, but whatever. queens live in caskets sounds like it was recorded in a closet, kinda like, how legened would have it, on avery island supposedly was. queens live in caskets shares no similarities with avery other than they both are dyi in nature and have a sense of stoner like urgency about em. “the coronation” could be straight off destroyer’s streethawk if only bejar was channeling kevin shields instead of bowie.
there is no more inconspicuous rock star than paul simon. the man writes amazing songs and composes some of the most beautiful pieces of music i have ever heard, all while looking like a small town used car salesman. if you only listened to one simon record, i couldnt recommend graceland enough. its definitely in my top 15 of all time and me thinks it should be required listening in order to join some kinda club that doesnt exist.
here is a beautiful soundboard recording from the hollywood bowl in la on 9.27.91. part two will be posted later tonight.
