i’m a goddamn marvel of modern science

adams.jpg

file this one under “should have just went to bed.” i stayed up to follow the mac world coverage on engadget, which hilariously went down just as things started going. so i headed on over to gizmodo and followed the action until i realized i couldnt afford/need what jobs was pushing. i dont know about you folks, but i was pretty disappointed with at least the macbook air. the other stuff, while cool, doesnt really do much for me. it was the air, or whatever they were announcing, that i was particularly interested in. dont get me wrong its pretty sweet, but it almost screams “yeah, i got the fucking cash/neck deep in debt, so fuck you.” i definitely dont think its very practical for every day use, unless of course you travel a lot or are a trust fund college kid. i dont know what i was expecting but i was hoping for something like that, but not for 1800 bucks. thats really the killer, at least for me. its becoming increasingly more difficult for me to justify apple prices, as awesome as they are, when i can get a dell with better specs for 500 bucks cheaper. since apple’s new found love of all things intel, the only thing really seperating pc’s from macs are the os, and thats an easy fix. get rid of xp/vista and go with ubuntu, or something of the like. half your issues are solved just by getting rid of windows. so, yeah, unless i can get one of the refurbed macbooks, my next purchase will probably be a dell or whatever. definitely should have just hit the hay.

i thank the big baby jesus above that the day of infamy, the iphone release date, has passed. now, we must wade through extended, see bullshit, coverage of said device at just about every tech website imaginable - most notably two of my favorites, engadget and gizmodo. as it turns out, and not surprisingly, there are few issues arising after making their purchases. a few that i would find quite annoying if i had purchased one are: activations taking greater than 24 hours, most 3rd party head phones dont work and it turns out the iphone doesnt work with 64 bit xp or vista. even with all these annoyances i still wish sprint had gotten it. i dont understand why oh why apple would team up with att - probably the worst network out there. i had att for 5 years and their tdma service was awesome but as soon as i switched to gsm all bets were off. what they claimed and what was delivered were two totally separate things. that was in chicago, then when i came to atlanta and cingular took over my phone was pretty much unusable 50 percent of the time. i still want one! did any of you guys buy one and if so whats up?

hey, in case you have not heard everyones 6th or 7th favorite canadian ensemble, stars, have a new record, in our bedroom after the war, coming out on sept 25. in case you never heard it, there debut set yourself on fire is pure bliss and i am hoping for more of the same from this one. here’s the first single off in our bedroom..

the night starts here

you can listen to set yourself on fire on the arts and crafts site, here

austinite chris simpson who goes under the monikor, zookeeper, has crafted a wonderful piece of lazy day, going no where in particular pop with his zookeeper debut. suprisingly, he’s been around for awhile in such bands as mineral and the gloria record - anyone ever hear of them - but i have never heard of him until a few days ago. after listening to it repeatedly over the past few days, i can confidently say this will probably end up in my top 10 of the year.

has anyone listened to wilco’ sky blue sky more than 5 times? i know i havent. is there something i am missing? this has been my view of sky blue sky over my 5 +/- listens: meh, getting better, better, skip skip, meh, boring. i know thats six, what can i say? every time i go to listen to it, i find myself skipping over 90% of the tracks which is truly depressing. definitely my most disappointing record in some time. anyway, here they are in 2001 @ the majestic theatre in detroit.

damn you engadget! pavement on the bbc

i stole this photo from engadget, which as i have stated before is the best site, technology or otherwise on the net. one of the many things that i love about engadget is that the staffs collective writing style is very conversational, and they dont get too technical just to prove they can - see boring as hell and really quite pompus. the past weeks visits to engadget have ben a bit painful though. with all the ps3, wii and zune it made me realize that my pocketbook doesnt match my technological aspirations/wants. regarding the zune, i dont want one but i still would love to play with it. i found this tid bit of information pretty funny. in order to install the zune you must register it first - which is totally insane if you ask me. i dont believe that apple requires this, do they? apparently, a zune was purchased a couple of days early at some mega retailer and when they went to install it they kept getting errors. as it turns out in order to install the software it must connect to the zune servers/database which are not up yet because the zune has yet to be officially released. i think that its a fair assumption that the zune is going to bomb.

my wife and i have been together for almost 9 years, and in that time there has not been a week that has gone by that i have not listened to a pavement record in her presence. it has not been until recently that she has finally started sharing my love, of pavement that is. dont know what the hell changed in her brain, but damn bitches be crazy.

ok, here is a question i am posing to your dear person(s) i have heard some rumblings that its a pain in the ass to download each individual track especially when a post contains more than 10 tracks.? would you prefer that i provide a link to a .rar file that contains all the tracks? keep in mind that i am fairly lazy, so maybe what i will do then is only provide a couple of track direct links, but the also provide the .rar file. let me know if you care.
