you slithered out of your mother’s filth

hola amigos! there’s a pretty righteous instore going on today at criminal, for those of you in the atlanta area. seminal trashy grunge party rockers, supersuckers, are playing, like i said at criminal, @ 7 pm-ish. they are part of the so-co fest thats going on tomorrow at centennial olympic park - its free and the gates open at 3 pm. the only other band that i have heard of that is performing is against me - liked their first two, the last one not so much. here’s a few supersucker tracks.

hayden’s in town and field came out a few weeks back, which i absolutely forgot about until i visited aquarium drunkard yesterday. as with a lot of records its been on the ipod, but haven’t given it much time for some bullshit reason. so, gave it a couple of spins last night and its quite good. it’s definitely not my favorite, that belongs to skyscraper national park, but it’s a nice listen. if you are a neil young fan, you will probably dig hayden.

pick up a few hayden records on eMusic. they have a 50 free download special goin on right now, btw.

i, admittedly, dont know much, outside of blister and add it up, about the violent femmes. whilst in college i used to sleep with a young lady that loved the femmes, but wouldn’t let her listen to them in my presence - yeah i used to be a major pain in the ass. so, when i stumbled across this femmes show from hamburg, germany on 2.7.84, i figured i would finally give em a chance. pretty cool stuff i must admit and for any femmes fan, which one is their best?

the new hayden, in town and field, came out last week, or i guess two weeks ago, but i finally gotten around to checkin it out over the weekend. after a few listens, i can confidently say that this is definitely one of his, if not his best. his on going slide into neil young on the beach/after the gold rush territory is really strong with this record.

whilst, on hayden’s hardwood records site i came across this little candian vixen, basia bulat. she’s got a real 60’s songstress quality to her voice, which i very much appreciate. the music, at least this track, is upbeat if not a little quirky. again, fine with me. her oh, my darling comes out on rough trade on 2.5.08

admittedly, i have never been a big fan of the who. mostly, due to the fact that i have never tried - although, like a lot of bands, i plan on it. anyway, my man paul brought this set of who demos/rehearsals to my attention called the punk meets the godfather. click the link for more info. anyway, some very cool stuff, including the almost 12 minute, “baba o’riley.” thanks again, paul.

howdy fine peoples. so, i went to the dentist today, which is one thing i absolutely love, and was hit with the stark reality, see huge estimated bill, that i need a shit load of work done. like to the tune of close to a used, fairly new hyundai. from the outside my teeth look fine, but its alot of little shit which ads up to a one fuckin big bill. of course insurance only pays 1500 a year. damn genetics! blimey!

enough about my shit, lets talk once again about the lovely kate tucker and the sons of sweden, who seem to have made a mild splash around the internets with their single “faster than cars.” well, two more tracks have been released off her off their debut, which i still havent listened to. anyone check out the whole thing yet?

pretty psyched to hear that hayden is releasing a new record, in field and town, on his hardwood label on 1.15.08. he’s doing some touring in support of the record beginning on 1.16 in hamilton, on; but, sadly, nothing in the us, just canada for now - i hope. you can check out the first single from in field and town on his myspace page. his site has all the upcoming tour dates.

i cant decide if i dig black tie’s slice of americana or not. in case you arent aware, black tie is long time albuquerquean roger apodaca’s newest project. roger, who? yeah me too. but apparently he is a “veteran” of the albuquerque scene. what kind of scene does ‘querque have? anyone live there? i hate being on the fence, cause i really try to live in a black and white world like my man radio raheem. i dig the music, but not sure of his voice. check em out and let me know how to feel, im open to suggestions.

umm, i am very psyched to hear that mr mould has a new record, district line, coming out in february and from everything i have read it sounds like its going to be his best since his sugar days. i’ll believe it when i hear it, cause i think most of his latest solo records are fuckin awesome, minus modulate. i just hopes he gets down here for a tour sooner or later cause its been like 5 years since i last saw him. anyone have the circle of friends dvd? need to get that.

here he is performing on german radio in ‘89.

if you are in the atlanta area there are three noteworthy shows happening this week, two on thursday and the other on saturday. both john vanderslice @ the earl and local h @ the masquerade are playing on thursday and magnolia electric company are playing at the earl on saturday. actually, i dont know how notable local h is, but i used to go see them quite a bit back in chicago and it was always a great time. in case you forgot who or have no idea who local h is, here is a little diddy they penned a few years back.

speaking of canadians, i was very excited to hear that hayden has a new record coming out shortly. when, i dont know? but apparently its soon. its kinda funny sometimes where internet travels will take you. my initial search had nothing to do with hayden, but the next artist i am going to speak about, but somewhere along the way i ended up on his site. anyway, if you have never heard him definitely check him out. he’s got a very deadpan delivery but he writes some wonderful songs.

so, as i was saying, my initial search was centered around finding more information on patrick park’s most recent release, everyone’s in everyone. alas, i was pretty much shut down at every turn i regret to report. patrick’s previous record, loneliness knows my name, is a pretty damn fine piece of folky pop. its not brilliant my any means but it showed a lot of promise. in fact it is pretty great and only marred by a couple clunkers. i am just hoping he doesnt pull a beth orton on me. dont have much to offer, but here are a couple of edited down tracks. why edited? seems kinda ridiculous if you ask me.

somtimes its hard differentiating between the sincere and really fuckin pretentious. cause there’s really a fine line. such is my problem with team love(r), david dondero. i want to believe its the former, cause these two songs are really quite good. maybe its his charlie parker references in “rothko chapel” or his association with team love that sends up some kind of off color flag. i am not conor oberst hater, in fact i actually enjoy his stuff, in small doses, but lets be honest he’s got a flair for the over dramatic. i digress, dondero definitely knows how to pen a lyric, thats for sure, and they are nothing like oberst’s, but his delivery which comes equipped with a slight warble, keeps me from jumping on the wagon with full force. thats not to say i wont come around, but right now that damn impediment is slightly off putting.

up until a couple of days ago i cant tell you the last time the sounds of jon spencer blues explosion graced my ears - probably at least 5 years or more. while i own every jsbx record, orange being the best, i just dont ever feel up to the task. they have always been a little mentally taxing to me. this is not to say they arent great, but well you know..

here they are playing at the whiskey a go-go on 1.4.95.
