happy april fools day, you sons a bitches! fess up which one of you has or is going to be partaking in some kind of elaborate april fools gag? i stopped in 03, but it was a hard teet to break from. here’s a “complete” list of pranks pulled around the inter webs.
you like music? i am assuming you do cause you’re here. well, then chicago’s unicycle loves you could possibly be the answer to that question. they pack all the awesomeness of the last 30 or so years of music into 3 or so minutes better than i have heard anyone trying to pull off in a long ass time. ba da ba ba ba, im lovin it.
their self titled record is out sometime soon on highwheel records, i assume. oh and it was produced by my personal favorite, brian deck - who actually produced half of the new counting crows. weird.
husker du’s warehouse is one of my favorite records. so, when i found this on dime, i kinda felt like i had stumbled upon the holy grail or something of less significance. this here is the men of husker du rehearsing the songs of warehouse before hitting the studio sometime between august and november of 86 - the date on the txt file is the 5th of august, but of course its debatable. the rehearsal is cut short by the minneapolis po-po who had several complaints that they were way too loud and you can actually hear the cop saying, and i am paraphrasing, “you guys cant believe how loud it is.” not only does this bring the songs of warehouse into a different light, but its also just pretty bad ass to have.
i am so fuckin frustrated at the moment! i have been attempting to install ubuntu on my laptop for the past 4 days and i keep getting this goddamn bcm43xx error! i have hit all the boards, followed all the rules but yet it just doesnt want to load. i give up! i am not even trying to actually install it, but run the live cd. i just wanted to try the fuckin thing out. it shouldnt be this difficult, seriously. what-fuckin-ever…
two things:
1. its been a while since my primary puter was a pc so what is everyone using as their media player? i used to use foobar but it wasnt as intuitive as i would have liked and winamp was just ok. im using itunes at the moment but still not all that thrilled with it. thoughts? suggestions?
2. a year or so ago i posted a tom waits show from warsaw that now has gone missing on my end. does anyone have a copy they would be willing to share with yours truly? gracias!
until later today, here is a very nice audience recording of husker du live in manchester on 6.20.87
photo by rocco cipollone which i found on this cool little site. it has an small account of the guys journeys as he followed bob mould on his southeastern tour in 1997. he also has a shit load of cool husker du information.
on 6.23.84 the men of husker du took the stage at the legendary maxwell’s in hoboken and here is that performance.
if you have never ventured over to bob’s blog its definitely worth your time to at least check it out. click here for upcoming tour dates. sadly, atlanta is not on his list. oh, and you can pre-order his circle of friends dvd - which looks fuckin awesome. he pretty much runs through the best of bob, including husker du and sugar stuff. cant wait! click here for ordering details.
sup people? not much goings on here. i have been been catching up on some much needed r & r the past few days. i have been so lazy the past few that i couldnt even fathom spending more than a few minutes on the old computer which explains the lack of action on these pages this week.
tonight i am just going to finish up the mould show from austin. tomorrow i gots a bunch of shit i need to talk about. until then…
wow! the fantastic four movie is pretty bad, i dont know if the delictable jessica alba can save this train wreck. with that said, the new fantastic four, rise of the silver surfer, looks pretty bad ass - at least that’s what i can gather from the preview.
what can i say about husker du that hasnt already been stated probably more elequantly before? i dont listen to ‘em nearly enough as i should, but for some reason i can only handle them in small but intense doses. i think the quality of most of the recordings makes them almost unlistenable now. i understand that was part of the husker du experience, but my aging ears find it hard to dig in like i use to.
here they are playing in london on june 21 of 1987 - its supposedly a soundboard recording.
