yay voting! only took about 20 minutes which was to my liking. although, i was a bit nervous going in cause according to the ga secretary of state my status was “inactive,” and it didnt give any kind of comprehensible verbiage to what that exactly meant. apparentl, it meant very little cause i was able to vote for the first time since ‘92. yeah, i’m on top of shit.

new design? yes? no? who fuckin cares?

anyone have a what or waffles invite they care to share?

being that i am lazy, sometimes it’s the stuff that hits my inbox, while i happen to be in it, that gets the immediate listen and subsequent post. so, today when i got email proclaiming halifax’s dog day to be the greatest thing this side of titty bangin the the mutant chick from total recall. actually that comparison was never made, but i can read between the lines. sure enough, they arent as awesome as that made up scenario, but still pretty cool. they really remind me of the now defunct, lotion, if you are familiar with them, if you aint, check out their record nobody’s cool when you get a chance. but, yeah, dog day are pretty alright in my book. their latest release, night group, came out in early 07, and they are on tour now, nowhere near me.

man, i cant believe its almost september. that means its gettin to be that time. the time to start flushing out your end of the year best of lists. yeah i know theres still 4 months left but what else is supposedly coming out the remainder of the year besides the new band of horses, malkmus and chinese democracy?! i know theres more than that, but i am seriously drawing a blank. with that said, i think my top 3 favorites of the year thus far are isbell’s sirens of the ditch, iron and wine’s the shepherds dog and of montreal’s hissing fauna.. although ga ga ga ga ga, chris whitley and jeff lang’s dislocation blues and the besnard lakes are the dark horse are knockin on the door. what am i missing and what are you guys lovin this year?

if you have not heard whitley and jeff lang’s dislocation blues, please go get it now. their version of dylan’s “changing of the guard” is absolutely heart wrenching and alone worth the price of admission.

lastly, and probably most importantly. have you heard about this kid, eric volz, who is wrongly imprisoned in nicaragua? the story is so fucked up, it almost seems like a movie plot, i cant even fathom what he is going through right now. please visit the site that was set up and read what has happened to him. thanks to drew for bringing this to my attention!

desperation….its the world’s worst cologne

i have waited for more than a year for this day to arrive. of course i just didnt know it was going to be may 3, 2007. i speak, of course, of the leak of my most anticipated record of the past few years, jason isbell’s sirens of the ditch. apparently its been finished since before the release of the truckers last record but they decided to sit on it until after its release. that could all be internet created gossip but hey thats what i read - i think. anyway, i have yet to give it a proper listen but i will definitely have more than enough time tonite at work to delve into it.

here is jason performing the gorgeous “dress blues,” which is on sirens, at stubbs in august of 2006.

since 1988 there have only been two shows that i regret not attending. my biggest regret was my failure to attend, what turned to be out a monumental jeff buckley show at uncommon ground, in chicago, back in 94. i was sick, but not that sick, and was being my typical bitchy self when i feel a little under the weather. it would have taken me all of 3 minutes to get there but it was cold and snowing and like i said i am a little bitch when i am sick. here is a little info on that fateful evening.

my second regret, and this is fairly big one too, is that i missed what turned out to be the last replacements show, featured below, at taste of chicago in 91. i dont remember what kept me from attending but i am sure it was something as insignificant as a really awesome sega genesis marathon.
