i’m not really sure what to make of john hoeffleur and his champaign based beauty shop, or at least what to think of these demos. i haven’t heard either yard sale or yr money or yr life, but i hear both are grand. so, judging beauty shop just on these demos alone i would surmise that they need to get off their asses and make an actual record cause these demos are most excellent. he’s got a laid back delivery thats mildly reminiscent of will johnson and seemingly as intelligent in the lyric dept as well. the beauty shop isnt doing anything fancy or anything to get everyone in a tizy, but for those of us like our music that’s a bit more substance over style, then the beauty shop will be just fine. i hope.

i am going to guess that people will either go ga ga over murder mystery or pay em no mind. thats actually pretty lazy of me, but we both know that some bands just have that sound that either will excite or fall on deaf ears and murder mystery falls into this category. they make a nice poppy/dancey racket that luckily is more poppy than dancey, at least for me cause that really aint my thing. but who the hell am i though, belle and sebastian’s stuart murdoch was quoted as saying that “the kids will eat this up.”
their new record, are you ready for the heartache cause here it comes, is out now me thinks.
a friend of mine recommended i check out the dirty truckers, anyone familiar with em? her recommendations are pretty much hit or miss, but i wont hold that against her. anyway, i checked out their stuff on myspace and they sound pretty righteous - cool blend of the replacements, stones, lucero, the drive by truckers and am era wilco. check em out.
