ah, its shit like this that makes me laugh.

i noticed that the search function didnt work so swell with the last theme thus i am testing out new themes with the hopes of just sticking with one for a while. pardon the confusion.

it truly surprises me that there isnt much of a buzz about these dudes out of athens, dead confederate. maybe there has been, and i am just oblivious to it. buzz or no, this is some awesome shit. this is going to be lazy, but i am so its par for the course, but think bleach era nirvana crossed with crazy horse. they have a newer ep out now, and a full length due this spring.

they are currently on tour, and play at star bar in atlanta on 2.29 - definitely going to attempt to check em out.

here is the beatles’ rooftop concert and let it be rehearsals. for some reason, and i can only think its because it was released, but my version is missing “dont let me down” which is the actual 3rd track. then the let it be rehearsals are missing a couple of tracks, which i can only assume for the reason. more info here.

so, atlantians, chris simpson is bringing his band, zookeeper, to the earl on 26th. i think this is the third time i have mentioned zookeeper around these parts and with good reason. his recently released debut, becoming all things, is really excellent and without a doubt will crack the end o’ the year top 10. he brings zookeeper to chapel hill on the 27 @ local 506.

does anyone have any invites they would be share? you know what i am talkin bout.

btw, i think yesterday was captain’s deads 2 year anniversary. i really didnt think i would last 2 months. here’s to another two years, maybe.

if ya got a spare second, and lets be honest you do, head on over to berkeley place and take part in ekko’s best covers of the century survey for your chance to win fabulous prizes and shit.

hey guess what? this year’s plug award nominees have been posted and i wasnt nominated, again. not that i would ever expect to be in the same league as some of the “bloggers” nominated but a boy can dream. maybe if they ever come out with a c-list blogger award thingy, then just maybe.

ok, one last thing and probably most importantly. you probably know that there are a lot of people far worse off than you or i. maybe you dont and in that case, there are. so, with that in mind why dont you head over to labels are for jars, a project that conan obrien sits on the board of, and buy one of their shirts. each 20 buck shirt will feed a guest of the centre’s for a week. shit, i can, surely you can too, easily spend almost 20 bucks on one meal. all you really need to do is not order those last two la fin du monde’s, or 10 pbr’s, tomorrow evening and give. pretty simple concept. ok, off my pulpit.

have you all checked out the im not there soundtrack yet? its pretty freakin awesome and have to admit that chan’s take on “stuck inside of mobile..” is truly the highlight of the 2 disc spread. yeah, im biased but it is very cool. john doe’s “pressing on” is pretty righteous too.

tampa’s zillionaire reminds me of your friend’s friends really cool band. where at first you get asked to go to the show, and you really dont want to cause you just know its going to be hell. there’s going to be like 5 people there, its going to be awkward and you really just dont feel like dealing with that shit. there maybe chicks, thats the only real motivation here. wouldnt you know the first guy you see is some ass clown wearing an awesome/clever “beer is food” shirt and then you run across the dick that refuses to part with his bluetooth headset, and its not so bad that he’s still adorning the gadget but his has the blinding blue light that you can see from 100 yards away. order your beer, scan the joint and surprisingly there is a fair amount of decent lookin chicks around. night seems to be getting better if only the first band shut the hell up. wait around, bullshit with friends, still checkin out chicks, still no sign of hooking up with anyone and still drinking. fuckin finally, your buddies band goes on. did they really need to tune for a half hour? anyway, about two songs in you come to the realization that this is some pretty good shit as you start to do the white guy head bounce thing. you excuse yourself and slowly and methodically make your way to the front. still not hooking up or even attempting to talk to a girl, but in your mind you really dont need to to attract em. you stand off to the side near the front, in the attempt to not look too interested. still doing the head bobbing thing, though. there you stand and all is good. even if you dont get any. zillionaire’s kinda like that.

their new record the street lights have been turned down is out on 1.15.08

i found this fIREHOSE show on archive.org and figured i would share it with you peeps. there are a shitload of great shows that can be found on archive. the only issue that i have is that the quality is typically a little suspect. this is a nice sounding show, though, from belgium on 3.12.91

wazzz up? firstly, i am once again addicted to butterfingers. i had stayed away from their crunchy choclatey goodness for too many years, and now they are back in my life. hopefully for good.

hey, david bazan of pedro the lion fame plays at the earl on saturday evening. if i werent going up to the georgia mountains this weekend, i just may have attended. opening for david is jim fairchild formerly of grandaddy. his record, ten readings of a warning, features a pretty awesome cast of characters, including, janet weiss, joe plummer and danny seim. check out all smiles myspace page for some tracks. david, on the other hand, has a new 10 song ep called fewer moving parts and features 5 new tracks, including this one…

prepare the hyperbole police. if i could marry sera cahoone’s voice, i would. she’s attractive for sure, but that voice of hers is like a tummy rub from god. this beautiful piece of work flew under my radar for a good year and a half. i really dont know how this happened but i’ll be damned if i let it happen again, this year. for those that dont know who she is, she was the drummer for carissa’s wierd. you know the band that band of horses rose up from. if you dig beth orton, cat power, neko, etc. then you should love this. she was signed to sub pop earlier this year i believe.

who is the keeper of the katra?

whoa! sorry about that. i got a major case of the lazies yesterday, or if i were in college or worked at a brokerage firm i would have called it the tieoneon flu. sadly, i didnt get to see warm in the wake on saturday evening. i was able to catch a pretty cool band outta chapel hill, nc called twilighter and a fairly decent band called the eyes. twilighter take a page right outta yankee hotel foxtrot era wilco and throw in a lot of son volt along the way. i would definitely check em out if they come to your area.

in case you slept through the 8o’s, 90’s, this decade or maybe you just dont care, but you then probably arent acquainted with probably the coolest man in rock n roll, mr mike watt. you know the man behind two iconic bands, minutemen and fIREHOSE. anyway, i have been diggin on his 94 solo record ball-hog or tugboat over the past few days. up until last thursday i hadn’t listened to it in probably 8 years. if you arent familiar with ball-hog it features a venerable who’s who of 90’s indie/college rock, including j mascis, thurston moore, eddie vedder, evan dando, frank black, dave pirner, etc. its pretty bad ass and i definitely recommend seeking it out.
