George Newman, you are a selfish, thoughtless, insensitive creep.

hey, if anyone is looking for hosting, surpass hosting has a year of hosting for a buck. i cannot vouch for them in any way, but for a buck i figured someone may have the need. i’ve read some reviews and they seem to be decent to pretty good, but proceed at your own risk. oh, today is the last day for the deal.

kinda late to the mobius band party, but still glad i made it. granted, havent heard the whole record but these two glitchy synth pop tracks are pretty damn infectious. now, i am not too sure about their version of neil’s “razor love” but i guess i am willing to look past it, and it may grow on me. that cover is just one of six other covers available on a free valentines day inspired ep. which can be found here. they also took part in a daytrotter session over here.

(edit: strangely i wrote about these guys briefly in july, but have zero recollection)

their new record, heaven, is out on misra

after a scant 3 or 4 listens, i can already tell i may fall hard for the men of birmingham, alabama’s 13ghosts. they sound like a front porch gathering of mark linkous(sparklehorse), califone and self-inflicted aerial nostalgia era gbv somewhere in the heart of the deep south. check em out..

their new record, the strangest colored lights, is out on 3.18 on skybucket records.

i dont know who this guy(s) is but i kinda dig it. this guy(s) goes under the moniker of boys noize, and while dj stuff isnt typically my thing, i find this set @ i love techno 2007 to be particularly interesting or at very least a nice change of pace from my normal listening regimen.

its one file @ about 80 megs, just to let you know.

top o’ the morning. you guys hear about that purported meg white sex tape? yeah, well if you go to egotastic you can check it out, or atleast a minute or two of it. its clearly not her, but for a minute i was mildly excited. i mean the body says maybe but the face says not so fast champ. i still watched the whole clip, you know just to make sure. in the end, it was just some chick with a big rack gettin nailed and a set of nuts i didnt need to see. oh well. i should mention that its definitely nsfw.

go bears!? ugh…

i still cant get over how awesomely hilarious sunday nights season opener of family guy was. i knew they were doing something star wars related but i didnt know that they were pretty much running through all of episode iv. very very cool.

lookin for something to do this fine evening in atlanta? well, the sea and cake are playing at the earl at 9ish, probably wont be more like 11 until they go on. then animal collective plays at the variety tomorrow evening. i am still vey much on the fence regarding my opinion of animal collective. although, the new one is supposed to be pretty good? anyone hear it yet?

the more i listen to iron and wine’s “boy with a coin” from the shepherds dog i become more convinced that its probably my favorite song of the year. for all 4 of you that have somehow not participated in the iron and wine frenzy, check it!

i like this kid, markland starkie, and his sleeping states. he states that he has a real issue with the whole singer-songwriter genre and finds it “cheesy beyond belief.” now, i am not to sure what he’s doing to change anyone’s perceptions of the dreaded singer-songwriter genre but it sounds good to me.

its been a long ass time since i have done something gbv related. mostly due to not having a huge quality selection to choose from, at least the avenues i travel, and well thats probably it. so today is the aborted gbv record, circa 1995, the power of suck. now from all accounts, the power of suck, was going to be a concept record about the mediocre rise to success that gbv garnered after bee thousand and going into alien lanes. its all folklore at this point but check the gbv database for further details.

sometimes i am real slow to come around to certain things - and when i say things i really mean records. i dont think its necessarily a character flaw, some may tend to differ, but me thinks it only deepens my appreciation for that particular recording. that being said, its only been in the past month or so that i have done a complete turn around and now am completely ga ga for the thermals’ the body, the blood and the machine. what a kick in the head and punch in the balls this record is. “here’s your future” is one of the best openers i have heard in long ass while mostly due to the fact that it sets the tone and scope for the rest of the record, perfectly. in my opinion, no greater song has been written about god’s indifference and inevitable mass annihilation of the human race than “i might need you to kill.” i maybe reading into a bit much, but its still a bad ass song.

the fine folks at misra have a couple of recent signings that sound rather cool. the first is a young dude straight outta the uk that goes under the moniker sleeping states. still cant put my finger on who he sounds like but this song “rivers” is pretty low key in a lo-fi kinda way. ed droste of grizzly bear listed “rivers” as one of his favorite songs of the past year on pfork, if that does anything for ya. sleeping states’ there the open spaces is going to be released sometime soon i suppose. you can pre-order it on the misra site.

secondly is three lads out of massachusetts that call themselves mobius band. they have a new record entitled heaven and if i can judge the record by this single its going to be filled with glitchy keyboard pop. which sounds good to me.

im not going to lie and say i have been an ac/dc fan since i was like 12 or something. in fact its more like since i was about 29. my first real encounter with ac/dc was in high school and this kid ryer tried to turn me onto them the way he did with danzig. hey, that first danzig record is still pretty damn good! anyway, i went to a “christian” school, long story, and the majority of the kids believed that ac/dc stood for “against christ, defeat christ.” it was fairly comical. anyone else ever run into that? i have tried to get into throughout the years, but the amount fuckin ass clowns claiming ac/dc as their favorite band somehow kept me from fully enjoying ‘em. yeah, i used to have some strange hangups.

is it odd that while i love the magnetic fields, i actually feel the exact opposite towards his other projects - save the first 6ths record? anyway, according to stephin’s site the new magnetic fields record is slated to be released sometime in early 08 presumably on merge. currently, he is working on a stage adaptation of neil gaimins’ coraline.

i have been listening the hell outta the charm of the highway strip and 69 love songs the past few weeks. depending on how you look at it, they are either two or four, since 69 is 3 discs, of my favorite records of all time.

for those of us in the atlanta area, voxtrot is playing this evening, wednesday the 27, at the drunken unicorn. admittedly, i love the two eps but find their full length quite a dreadful bore. opening the evenings festivities is brooklyn’s, and misra artist, palomar. they kinda remind me of a less poppy velocity girl or as their bio states, the fastbacks. their all things, forest can be pre-ordered through the misra website.

okkervil river is prepping for the release of the stage names on 8.7.07 on jagjaguwar - my favorite label the past couple of years. with only one listen under my belt i can confidently say that its pretty great and seemingly much different in terms of instrumental scope than black sheep boy, but sadly thats all i can muster in terms of an intelligent critique at the moment. here is the first single from the stage names

what a “not want to do anything” day this has been. the boy has been ill the past couple of days and literally has not left the couch all day today. therefore, we are wallowing in his laziness and catching up on some of our own. one downside to his current condition is that we have watched the sponge bob movie a few of times, as well as the curious george movie - which was mildly entertaining. i believe he may have some mild form of obsessive compulsive behaviour, which i can probably chaulk up to bad parenting.

have you guys checked out chicagoan david vandervelde as of yet? he’s definitely got a t rex, bowie and 70’s glam vibe going on. typically this kind of style is not my thing but he doesnt kiss too much influence ass to make it way over the fucking top. its the direction i wish dan bejar and destroyer would have taken after i first heard streethawk. david’s got a new record the moonstation house band comin out at the end of the month.
