sup? so band of horses are doing a three night stand at the earl, 12.28 -30. you can pre-order the tickets here or wait until they go on sale to the general public next week. the choice is yours. visit the earl’s site for more info.

i reposted the first half of pavement’s stuff up the cracks comp over here.

anyone excited about the new season of project runway? not only do i love me some heidi klum, tim gunn is freakin awesome/hilarious. btw, it starts on wed, 11.14. take a look at this years cast. chris looks he’s going to be a real trouble maker or something.

my man, mike doughty, has a new record entitled golden delicious coming out on 2.18.08, which seems like a hella long way away. i mention this because last night, in chicago, he started his “the question jar show” tour. on this shortish tour he will take requests and answer any and all questions placed into the question jar. if anyone went to the show at schubas last night let me know how it was. even though there isnt an atlanta show, i am still curious. he plays tomorrow evening in louisville @ phoenix hall tavern. check his site for a list of dates. here is the first single from golden delicious.

andy ditzler is normally not my cup of tea, but there is something oddly endearing about him and his spoken word take on pop music. he kinda falls somewhere in between stephin merritt and ben folds, but more on the folds end of the spectrum. his songs are fun and smart, but not hokey like fun or pretentiously smart. check him out..

somewhere nestled in my top 5 favorite bands is superchunk. shit, i named my damn kid after mac - if that tells you anything. creepy? maybe. so, i was pretty damn psyched when this show from 93 showed up on dime. i dont know why, but i dont think i have ever come across a superchunk show. maybe i just dont hang in the right corners of the interwebs. if anyone has a hook up let me know.

here they are in krefeld, germany on 5.30.93

wazzz up? firstly, i am once again addicted to butterfingers. i had stayed away from their crunchy choclatey goodness for too many years, and now they are back in my life. hopefully for good.

hey, david bazan of pedro the lion fame plays at the earl on saturday evening. if i werent going up to the georgia mountains this weekend, i just may have attended. opening for david is jim fairchild formerly of grandaddy. his record, ten readings of a warning, features a pretty awesome cast of characters, including, janet weiss, joe plummer and danny seim. check out all smiles myspace page for some tracks. david, on the other hand, has a new 10 song ep called fewer moving parts and features 5 new tracks, including this one…

prepare the hyperbole police. if i could marry sera cahoone’s voice, i would. she’s attractive for sure, but that voice of hers is like a tummy rub from god. this beautiful piece of work flew under my radar for a good year and a half. i really dont know how this happened but i’ll be damned if i let it happen again, this year. for those that dont know who she is, she was the drummer for carissa’s wierd. you know the band that band of horses rose up from. if you dig beth orton, cat power, neko, etc. then you should love this. she was signed to sub pop earlier this year i believe.

honestly, i was pretty hesitant to give mick jones and tony james’ new band carbon/silicon a listen. sometimes, you just want your musical icons frozen in time, never to be heard from again - or at least i do. scared that the quality of their output isnt going to quite cut it, no matter how much you try and tell yourself that it does. judging, by just this track i would have to say that my fears were unwarranted. still, i may not even listen to the record and just let this gem resonate through my noggin. their record, the last post, was out two weeks ago.

for fans of the much loved movie, once, and/or glen hansard of the frames, he and cast mate, marketa irglova will be performing at the variety on 11.17 under the moniker the swell season. they will be performing tracks off the soundtrack and from what i hear the shows have been awesome. here are a couple of frames tracks, they as a band are pretty cool.

by the way, if you are a califone fan i have reposted the first disc to the goodbye cheater comp over at thanksfornothin - disc two will be posted tomorrow. i will be using that site, amongst other thing, to repost some stuff that i think is worth revisiting.

i dont really talk about neko case too much, cause there’s really not much to say. sure, she writes wonderful songs, has one of the best voices in all of music and is mildly hot, but frankly, over the years, she seems like she has grown to be a pain in the ass. i have absolutely nothing to back this up whatsoever, other than a gut feeling and in all likelihood its probably just me. anwyay, the only reason i bring her up is because i do love her music, and while i was on the anti site i stumbled across a couple of my favorite neko tracks and here they are…

i’m mildly intrigued by atlanta’s tiger! tiger! brand of punk meets old school r&b meets garage rock. what drew me in, initially, was that damn organ they use ever so effectively. i am a huge sucker for a rollicking organ - it probably stems from my non-reciprocated love affair with nancy faust. like i said, i was pulled in by the organ but stuck around for lead tiger! buffi aguero’s sultry crooning. with that sultriness comes a hint of pent up agression that manifests into a kind of sybil like quality about her which makes the experience even more interesting. check em out…

tiger! tiger!’s new record, the kind of goodnight, is out now, i believe, on chick ranch records.

i have been in a pixies mood the past few weeks and here they are playing on 9.17.90 in madrid. its the full fm broadcast, but unfortunately not the entire show - i dont think there is an actual copy of the entire show.

hey, hey! so, i stopped that whole words and guitar experiment after a scant number of posts. i realized half way through the last post that i hated my own stories. couple that with my dwindling memory of yesteryear and my ever shrinking personal time, it just wasnt going to happen the way i wanted.

never heard of this kid, james mcavoy, but apparently he has been picked to portray cobain in the long talked about biopic.

i’ve written a couple o’ times about the coathangers but just in case you missed them the first couple times around here a few tracks off their debut. they play in nyc this evening at mercury lounge and tomorrow, also, in nyc at death by audio - never heard of that joint.

its kind of hard, at least for me anyways, to not dig dc’s the carribean. they make a nice chill sound that would go down nicely with a hoegaarden or two or three and a smoke or an entire pack. they’re an interesting meld of the shins pop sensibilities and the sea and cake’s ever present jazz leanings. their new record, populations, is out today. check em out.

i was a late bloomer when it comes to actually listening to the byrds. i was a burrito brothers fan about 4 or 5 years prior to ever listening to sweetheart of the rodeo. one would think that i would have made the transition to the byrds a lot sooner, but such was not the case. it wasn’t until i dove into sweetheart and then their back catalogue how much on a different level they were than the burrito bros. sure they burrito’s are great, but their first two records are the only ones really worth owning in my opinion. the byrds catalogue, on the other hand, is absolutely stellar. well, at least the period from 65 -68 is, but during that time they put out 6 classic records.

here they are performing at the avalon in san francisco on 11.2.68. for a recording that is almost 40 years old it sounds superb.
