bring your own lampshade, somewhere there’s a party

lets kick off this weekend in grand style, shall we? tonight for your listening pleasure are some sire era mats demos/outtakes. some of em are a little rough, but all are definitely worth the download.

in other news, you ever go to open the door and you start proceeding through said door only to find that the door has met your foot first causing you to hit your head on the door? instant headache…awesome!

btw, i love how smangs shows up and all of a sudden i am changing the way i do shit around here. it’s just like a woman to go against the grain and expect us to fall in line. yet, sadly thats exactly what i am doing. bitches, man, bitches. i am assuming that the whole posting a few tracks but providing a full zip/rar is cool with everyone? understanding that i/we will never please anyone, i would like a general consensus.

Red lips, hair and fingernails?

We’ve had a request for some Faces, and there really isn’t much out there on them, comparatively, but we do have the bootleg known as “Killer Highlights,” recorded mostly for a BBC-aired show. Some of this appears on the completist’s wet dream, “Five Guys Walk Into a Bar” box set. The batch includes Faces faves like “Had Me a Real Good Time,” “Borstal Boys” and for the first time live, “Bad n Ruin.” But more interesting are the covers — McCartney’s “Maybe I’m Amazed” balanced by Lennon’s “Jealous Guy,” The Stones’ “Love in Vain,” The Temptations’ “I’m Losing You,” and Free’s “The Stealer.”

Wilson and Alroy have a great Faces refresher, which outlines their short-lived, six-year catalogue.

RECORDING DETAILS: BBC Paris 1,2,3,5,6,7+14 1972, rest 1973

Put it all on at a hundred to one

The last installment (for this week anyway…………) of the Stones stash. This one’s dubbed “Lonely at the Top,” and unfortunately, as a collection, doesn’t come with as much (confirmed) info, but several tracks have been culled from the Place Pigalle breakdown, far as we can tell. We tried to cross reference everything but long division was never our strong suit (and send that through a 2 am, 4 vodka sodas ringer and we’re not into passing on misinformation).

As mentioned yesterday, “Drift Away,” with Nicky and Billy holding it up, is the inarguable highlight. The scratch of Sweet Home Chicago might get Gregor going, Keef fans will appreciate the mastered up version of We Had It All (previously seen on ParisV2), Living Is A Harder Love reveals an early (non-reggae-”ish”) “Luxury”, and while Gangster’s Maul is standard issue, well, we get a kick out of picturing Gregor coming home at 4am (circa 1997 mind you), spreading out every single CD he owns, and singing this well-soaked Tattoo You-spiked (if Memory Motel regurged) number: “Went downtown….I love that girl with all my heart *tosses his lobster claw* …. I seen it all… I seen the world….*lobster claw high five* shiny cars! Liz Phairs, they’re all the same…. I’m not the marrying kind…. SHINY carrrrrzzzzzzzzth”

Try it — it’s fun.

Again. A minor! Let’s repeat it! Again! Keep going!
