is this real?

a friend of mine made me a wipers mixtape back in the early 90’s and looking back i remember my was “if i want to listen to nirvana, i’ll listen to nirvana. if i want to listen to bob mould/husker du, i’ll listen to bob mould and/or husker du.” so, on and so forth. you get the point. i was pretty ignorant back then, or at least had a tendency to. said mix tape was listened to a few times, but filed away for safe keeping. it wasnt until probably until 2000 that i got around to listening to it again. this time everything clicked. my musical landscape had broadened greatly and there was no more denying that greg sage had, and continues to be aped over, and over again with little to no fanfaire. which i am sure is fine with him. plain and simple, along with the aforementioned artists, hundreds and possibly thousands of artists owe a debt of gratitude to greg sage and his wipers.

you can buy the first three, classic wipers records, re-mastered in a box set for the paltry sum of 17 bucks. worth every single penny, imo.

hola! thats a real god damn shame about heath ledger, huh? yet brit and winehouse continue to live. although, not sure for how much longer. you see what spears was up to today? awesome!

i know i may seem like i am becoming a broken record, with these stones, pink floyd and beatles posts, but as of late i have been too lazy to do all the flac conversions/tagging/etc. so, since they came to me with all that shit already done, its just adds to my laziness. after this pink floyd show and another stones show tomorrow, i will be branching back out starting next week.

this has been probably been floating around tons of other blog things, but its definitely worth posting. secretly canadian artist, dave fischoff, has a new project in which he is going under the moniker, spoolwork. his first job is a remix jens lekman’s “i’m leaving you because i don’t love,” and its pretty damn cool. he was sent the basic vocal track and built everything around it. check it!

hola, amigos. holy f’in a! cant believe i missed that the new rock of love was coming on! actually i think yesterday was the first episode. dudes/dudettes please check out the chicks in this years cast. i swear 90 percent of them look mildly/strongly to be products of incest.

two of my most anticipated records of 08 have leaked, malkmus’ real emotional trash and mould’s district line. real emotional trash is pretty bad ass, but unless you have seen malkmus as of late probably not what you would expect. its pretty jammy, which is to say its a bit reminiscent of wowee zowee, which is just fine by me. district line, i am still working on. there are like 6 or 7 songs that are great right off the bat, the 3 or 4 are the ones i am going to have to spend some time with. its definitely not a disappointment, just still getting used to the newer bob.

i got a bunch of new stuff to talk about later, but until then here is darkside of the moon performed in its entirety on 3.15.73 in philadelphia at the spectrum. its an awesome soundboard that is commonly referred to as dark soundboard of philadelphia.

sup peoples? if you are subscriber, you may or may not have to re-subscribe because i think i messed up my feed. so just click that orange thing <—— over there and all should be ok. for those of you who dont do readers, i have added the option to be emailed whenever something new and exciting is posted - which is usually just once a day. just thought i would mention it.

for those that may have missed it the first time around, i reposted whiskeytown’s those werent the days over here.

i have a new found appreciation and respect for david @ largeheartedboy for he has compiled one hell of a year end list from around the internets. check it!

i am very happy to report that the new magnetic fields record, distortion, is pretty awesome. it very much in the vein of wayward bus and 69 love songs with claudia, whose voice i love, taking the lead on just about half the songs on the record. i am sure you have heard it but just in case here is the first single.

i havent listened to new zealand’s die! die! die! yet cause other than distortion i am not listening to anything new this year, as i previously reported. the comparisons to sonic youth, wire, the pixies and jesus and the mary chain definitely piqued my interest, but yet i wont give in. touring with the likes of slint, blood brothers, wire and wolfmother doesnt hurt

die! die! die!’s promises, promises is being released on 2.18.07

i was a pretty big fan of beach house’s dream state inducing self titled debut, which came out last year. their sophomore record, devotion, is due out in february on carpark records. here be the first single. they have a shit load of tracks streaming on their myspace page, btw.

i know i am a little slow from time to time, but has anyone tried the service tumblr yet? i have only been playing around with it for a day, but i love it. its exactly what i have been looking for in terms of as a supplement to this joint. i want to update more, but am really, really lazy. tumblr makes it super easy to just share links, photos, stories, music, etc. it literally takes like 10 seconds to create a post. as opposed to the 30 seconds it would take to log into wordpress and do whatever. so, i will be updating my tumblr site probably at least 5 -10 times a day with random shit - some music stuff, but mostly interesting finds from throughout the intertubes.

so, after using tumblr for 48 hours i found that it was way too unreliable for my liking. its still a great service, in theory, but i think they are probably going through some growing pains that i dont reel like putting up with at the moment. as luck would have it, some guy wrote a plugin for wordpress that lets you use your wordpress powered site like tumblr. so, feel free to visit/bookmark the new captains dead supplement, thanksfornothin.

this phil spector 2 cd comp, wall of sound retrospective/a christmas gift for you, recently fell into my lap and if you are at all interested in his work this is really phenomenal. the christmas record is cool for what it is, but the wall of sound recordings is more than worth the price of admission. i cant recommend it enough.

i have been pretty addicted to eric trip’s 93 debut, love tara, which if you didnt know features the lovely voice of julie dorion. its not a brilliant record, not all of them need to be, but its pretty great. here is one of my favorite tracks of it.
