my relationship with allison ashmore lasted for 6 hours

dont know if i mentioned but i somehow landed a new job, which i started a couple of weeks ago. its a cool gig although not particularly exciting - monitoring the wan for the army. the only real downfall is that i, again, work nights - 11 pm - 7 am. it is a grand time to study for my ccna. yeah, exciting shit, i know.

anyway, one band i used to absolutely love, and still do, is knoxville’s power pop maestro’s superdrag. sadly, they disbanded a few years ago. lead dragger, john davis, released a solo record last year but it failed to live up to the quality released by his former group. walking along side the footsteps of superdrag is another knoxville based group, tenderhooks. i have only listened to the first single, “kidstuff,” off their yet to be released, don coffey, jr, of superdrag fame, produced record vidalia, but its pretty damn good. if you dig cheap trick, big star, superdrag, etc then these guys and one gal are probably gonna scratch right where you been itchin.

kid stuff

check out their myspace page for all the gritty details including tour dates, which features a performance at bonaroo.

baby goes to 11 - superdrag

feeling like i do - superdrag

both of those tracks are off of their last real release, last call for vitriol. they just released a collection of home recordings and other goodies entitled changing tires on the road to ruin.

man, i am slippin. first i post that hold steady in store then the springsteen show from hammersmith that was released on columbia. i am fuckin retarded sometimes. in its place here is bruce, supposedly, on the streets of copenhagen performing the river with a local street musician.

if you are in atlanta, you will be able to find me at the warm in the wake show tonight at the star bar this fine evening. so, if you see me say hey or whatever and if you dont know what i look like, i will be a white sox hat of some variety. i wrote about em a few months ago if you want to check em out.

speaking of the sox. i would have given just about anything to be at comiskey this week when buehrle pitched his no-no. in case you missed it here are the 27 batters he faced on his way to a place in the record books.

in other news, what the hell has happened to jennings and rbally? has anyone sent out a search party or been in contact with him lately?

this past week i have been a huge uncle tupelo kick, which happens with great frequency. i have been particularly mesmerized by the recording of their final performance which happened on 5.1.94 in st louis at mississippi nights. for those of you in attendance, i am of course jealous cause it must have been a magical evening.

do not seek the treasure

i maybe the only one that feels this way, but at this point in time its probably best if mr mangum never returns from his wily globe trotting escapades or chilling out in athens or where ever he is laying his head these days. it would be like getting back with a crazy ex-lover after years of being apart. sure, at the time they held this mystical like control over you but over the years people change and it never really amounts to anything but an awkward and unsatisfying experience. i hope i am wrong, if he ever does decide to come back to the living.

here is a beautiful soundboard recording of a performance at the side door in st louis on 5.5.97.

i dont know about you people but i have been shit tired the past couple of days. not really feeling motivated to do much of nothing. dont know if its the weather or the overnight hours or the lack of newcastle or sweetwater flowing through my veins but i feel like i could fall over at any moment.

the kamikaze hearts have a new track, “pompadour,” streaming on their myspace page at the moment. tangled up! and one little indian have released their wonderful/my favorite record of the 06, oneida road, in the uk and europe and “pompadour” is included in these releases. in case you are new to this here location and have never heard the kamikaze hearts before here are two tracks off of oneida road.

no one called you a failure

half of me

deer hunter

whilst viewing the hearts myspace page i ran across an interesting band comprised of two dames and a gent straight outta johnson city, tn who call themselves the everybody fields. not breaking any new ground but the three tracks they got up are really great, very much like a more southern fried iron and wine. the guy sam quinn has got a isaac brock love it or hate it type of voice, btw.

if you have been visiting this joint for any amount of time you will know that i love all things bob mould, well everything except modulate. so, with that said i dont feel like i have to go into or justify my love at this point.

here is bob playin in austin at liberty lunch on 10.21.89. the second half will be posted tomorrow.

its america dude, learn the rules

am i the only one who is mildly frightened by the self proclaimed queen of all media, perez hilton? he seriously looks like he is about two shades of electric blue away from being a convicted serial man rapist. i used to kind of enjoy his site but its gotten pretty fuckin ridiculous the past few months.

jesus christ look how young they look, i guess considering that they were. mills looks like he just got done pulling an all-nighter putting the finishing touches his science fair project, and michael looks like he just got done reading for the part of puck in a midsummers nights dream. i am also glad to see that bill was still rockin the mono brow back in the day. it warms my heart that jason molina is keeping the dream alive.

the boys are playing 5 sold out shows in dublin at the end of june/beginning of july. also, apparently they are going to reveal the tracklisting to their yet un-named/unrecorded new record at that time. dear lord i hope its better than the last two, which were absolute shit bombs in my opinion.

here they are playing at the 40 watt in athens during the automatic days.

pina-colada butt lotion?

ok, well, we probably wont be going down for a day or so. so, i kind jumped the gun on that one. its an annoying character flaw of yours truly - jumping the gun that is. although, i am sure anyone that knows me can pick out a few more.

i am sure these guys, vietnam, have been all hyped up around the net by now, and if they havent, they should have been. damn dirty hippies they are or is it thrift store chic, i dont know, but do they make a glorious racket. if you took the stones, sonic youth, a more coherent black mountain, took their respective man juices and forced bob dylan to have their child, you may have vietnam. they released their full length self titled debut back in january.
