note to self: next time you purchase a dresser from ikea plan on investing close to 4 hours putting it together and need a nap afterwards.

anyone know what happened to rbally yet again?

here be spoon on 1.23.08 @ the enmore theatre, in newtown, sydney, australia. it’s a fm broadcast, fyi. btw, they have a new remix ep of “dont you evah” which features remixes by ted leo, matthew dear and a few other choice artists. btw part II, it looks as if merge has a new download store, which looks awesome/not good for my budget. anyway, check out the spoon store here. btw, part III the rosebuds are offering up a free remixed version of their night of the furies via the merge store. dont think i ever listened to the rosebuds, but i guess now is my chance.

top of the mid morning to y’all. for those that didnt know, alicia keys is crazy as hell. when i say crazy, i dont mean “girl, you so crazy,” i mean “damn, that bitch is crazy.”

just got done watching no country for old men. me thinks it’s a wonderful film, but the ending left me indifferent to the whole experience. it almost negated the previous 2 hours of emotional investment i put into it. anyone else feel the same?

some great shows going on over the next few days in atlanta, and sadly i will not be attending any of em. firstly, explosions in the sky are playing @ the variety on sunday. they are still my number one group that i want to see, but never have, live. i hear that they are pretty fuckin righteous, and from the recorded shows i have heard i can confirm this claim.

yasmin the light off those who tell the truth shall die,…

your hand in mine off the earth is not a cold dead place

welcome, ghosts off all of a sudden i miss everyone

then, on monday, of all forsaken days, there are three shows goin on. firstly, iron and wine and califone are at the variety. secondly, spoon and the walkmen are at center stage. thirdly, mick jones’ new gig, carbon/silicon and matt pond pa are at the loft. they are also doing an instore @ criminal at 6 pm.

what the fuck off carbon/silicon’s the last post

i’m really diggin this track by stockholmite, anna ternheim. its from her stateside debut, halfway to fivepoints. she reminds me quite a bit of when beth orton was one of my main ladies - see her first two records. check her out.

gummo, frankly, scared me. well, not scared so much as left me feeling like i was forced to recieve a filthy sanchez with no way to shower. to be fair, i do love kids, which he wrote. still, when i hear his name scenes of gummo replay in my head, which is no way to live. anyway, for his latest flick, mr lonely, he instructed his two favorite artists j spaceman and the sun city girls to send him some music based of some pics and stills that were sent their way. the result sounds quite lovely, if only judging it solely on this track. its an all instrumental record/soundtrack and if you care to know more about the premise of the movie, clicky.

freedy johnston is a helluva an artist, there’s no denying that. unfortunately, i dont think he’s a very consistent artist, either. his first three records were phenomenal, particularly can you fly which was financed by selling off the farm he had inherited from his grandfather. what makes it so great is that there is a grea sense of urgency in the songs and that he was thinkin that if something doesnt happen now, it may never. robert christgau, if you know who that is, went as far to declare it the “perfect album,” and i would almost have to second that emotion. sadly, everything since the most excellent this perfect world has been strong, lyrically, but borderline easy listening, musically. josh rouse reminds me of freedy quite a bit, not musically, but in terms of strength of his material. josh’s first few records were great, then he moved to spain and it all went to hell. i had such high hopes for him, too. oh, well.

here is mr johnston is playing @ st bede’s club in chorley, england on 3.10.02. its a real nice audience recording.

i am becoming increasingly excited about seeing the transformers - not only cause i grew up playing with em but because it looks badass.  i am sure it will be the only movie i actually see in the theatres this summer.  consider this over the past 4 years i have only gone to the show to see return of the king and night in the museum.  i used to go quite often, at least 3 or 4 times a month, but i find paying 30-40 bucks when all is said and done to be quite the turn off to actually visiting a theatre.   although, i have been itching to see knocked up which i hear is fantastic.  any of you seen it yet?

i thought i had uploaded the remainder of bedhead 5 but alas i was wrong.  so, there will be a part 4 sometime tomorrow.  in the meantime here is part 3 of vol. 5

so our friends, and probably best record store in the country, at atlanta’s criminal records has a very cool wilco concert contest going on. as you may or may not know or care, wilco is playing at chastain on tuesday, june 19. well, nonesuch and wilco has hooked up criminal with 10 pairs of tickets that will allow you to catch out their soundcheck - you also get wilco tshirts and tote bags as part of the package. now, one small caveat, the package doesnt include actual tix to the show. so, i guess if you dont have tickets they are going to kick your ass to the curb prior to the show. but if you do have tickets you can possibly win a photo pass to be onstage during their first three songs. any who, if you want to enter send an email to wilco@criminal.com or stop on by.

in other news i happened to view a copy of hostel 2 the other day and if you had any interest in seeing it based on the first one, i would say wait a couple of months for the rental. of course you arent going into this looking for a story line its really all about how over the top eli could get with the blood and guts. sadly, this one is pretty tame in comparison and even the slight plot twist doesnt make up for the fact that its pretty lame.

i am sure most have you have heard the new spoon record, which is fantastic, but in case you have not here is the first single from ga ga ga ga ga.

the underdog

ga ga ga ga ga is set to be released on july 10.

one of my favorites this year is turning out to be the national’s boxer which is kind of a relief considering i absolutely hated alligator. maybe i didnt give alligator enough time but i found nothing redeeming about it on my first few listens. maybe time has been kind to alligator and need to revisit it, but boxer hit me pretty hard right out the box.

here are the men of the national performing live at the white sessions in france on 5.24.07 for a radio performance broadcasted on the 28th.

so ga ga ga ga is making its rounds the interweb and who am i to pass up taking it for a whirl? after a bunch of listens i have come to a premature conclusion; its probably their best work, or at least most consistent, since girls can tell. both kill the moonlight and gimme fiction are so damn frustrating cause there are some really great songs but some are almost unlistenable. maybe not so much unlistenable but really boring, but lacking in any kind of soul.

ga ga ga ga ga is going to be released on july 10 on merge and i am sure you will be able to find out more info closer to the release date on their official site / myspace.

the fabulous ladybug transistor are releasing cant wait another day on june 5. sadly, they lost their drummer san fadyl on 4.25 - more info here.

the first single “three days from now” has a great parsons era byrds vibe to it. i am definitely diggin it.
