top of the evening! just got done watching this great 9 piece doc on pfork tv on the 80’s music/art scene in athens. definitely worth your time if only for the michael stipe portion admitting that he can smell ants. least.useful.talent.ever.
here is the new video for the gutter twins’ “idle hands.”
in case you havent seen it, here is the video for the twins’ “all misery/flowers.” anyone know who the dancing guy is in the vid? to use a phrase out of kyle from morecowbell’s playbook, this song fucking slays live. in other gutter twins news, they are taping an episode of later w/ jools holland on 4.29, which if i read it correctly may force the postponement of a few dates.
get well, greg! apparently he fell ill on friday evening during the show @ ancienne belgique and was rushed to the hospital, where he was put on bed rest, under doctors orders. read more about it here @ the home of scott ford.
umm, yeah so that gutter twins show last night kicked all kinds of ass. i believed they covered the whole record, and also busted out the singers’ “blackberry belle” and one other i cant recall. they briefly covered “shadow of the season” and couple of lanegan solo tracks, one of which i believe was “methamphetamine blues” - i may be mistaken though. deep down i was really wishing for dulli to pull out a whigs song, but i knew that wouldnt happen. still a fuckin awesome show, whigs or no whigs. i was lucky enough to speak to scott ford, bassist for the twins and twilight singers, for a few after the nights festivities and as expected is a super cool bloke. it goes without saying that you need to check em out when they roll throw your town.
i cant think of a better way to spend six minutes and 40 seconds than by listening to luna’s “23 minutes in brussels,” which to me is as close to perfect to the perfect song as humanly possible. pure pop bliss at its absolute finest, and their records aint too shabby either. never listened to luna? definitely check out at least bewitched and/or penthouse, preferably both.
here is dean wareham and his band luna performing in sweden @ the hultsfed fest on 6.12.99. as always, much love to the original taper.
one of my most anticipated records of the 08 is now available for consumption, of sorts. stream the new sun kil moon on their myspace page, which can be found right here. havent listened to it but i have it on good authority that it “slays,” thats coming from kyle at more cowbell. so, take it for what its worth. he’s typically pretty right on.
the gutter twins are on letterman tomorrow evening, that is wednesday march 19. they are also here in atlanta @ the roxy on friday, a show that i will actually be attending thanks to tessa @ driveafastercar.
i am always willing to give japanese ladies the benefit of the doubt and such is the case with water fai - a quartet hailing from osaka. i have not listened to this but they claimed to be influenced by mogwai and yo lo tengo, couple that with the first tidbit and i’m sold. their new record girls in the white dream is out on 4.18.
as a reminder, the gutter twins are at the roxy on 3.21.
so thine ears have been graced with the sounds of saturnalia, and its everything i was hoping it would be. tell ya this, lanegan has to have one of the most diverse voices around and its no apparent then throughout saturnalia. one moment its that gravel pit/whiskey stained snarl, the next its dare i say actually kinda of calming in a cigarette and coffee kinda way. this is really no surprise, but something that i tend to forget, cause this gentler lanegan is all over whiskey for the holy ghost and the winding sheet.
anyone have a waffles of what invite they can share? por favor! i am a well versed in such things and keep excellent ratios...love you..
