As if MissDiva’s (and 999 other soon to be former Sprint customers) trite with Sprint wasn’t enough (http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=136518&
page=1&pp=15), now Sprint is going after 200 of our finest because of a required TDY, in an area that leaves them roaming with their Sprint phones. Way to go Sprint, who’s next?

i love that maury is on like 4 times a day which of course is completely unnecessary, but of course i love it. today, on the second episode, they had little kids - 2 to 4 years old - who weighed anywhere from 60 to 120 pounds. it was pretty fuckin sad, and of course there were mothers on there who blamed their children for stuffing their faces with obscene amounts of ribs, cup cakes, cheeseburgers, potato chips, pop, etc. good times.
and from the email inbox i have a couple interesting, yet fully digested, artists for your listening pleasure.
doubleplusgood: site / myspace

the instant: myspace
both tracks taken from part-y which is, according to their myspace page, a concept album about of course a party.

here she is discussing the inevitable hilton jail time and lohan’s rehab

over the past couple of years my appreciation/love for explosions in the sky has increased 10 if not 100 fold. i truly never thought that an instrumental band could ever emote as much passion as band, well, with vocals. needless to say i am terribly wrong quite often. i dont think there is any group in rock today that create greater moods/atmospheres than explosions in the sky. no matter which explosions record i listen to i always end up walking away like i have just been through some kind of transformation or battle, of sorts.
this can now be found here
here they are playing at the grey eagle in asheville, nc on 3.14.07.

this is some very cool news. the day after his show at the 40 watt on july 9, jason isbell will be throwing the record release party for his solo debut, sirens of the ditch, at the earl in atlanta on july 10. from there he’s got a shitload of dates spanning the country so check out his new site or myspace page for further details.
one of my favorite records of the past couple of years is black mountains self titled debut. black mountain is a dirty and sexy blend of the rolling stones, velvet underground, brian jonestown massacre, and maybe even a little hawkwind. anyway, two members of black mountain, amber webber and joshua wells have teamed up and formed, lightning dust. their debut, which is fucking great, is a lot more subdued than the black mountain but no less enchanting due in part to ambers amazing set of pipes. their debut is being released by jagjaguwar, one of my personal faves, on june 19. while i dont have anything to share from said release here are some black mountain/pink mountaintops/jerk with a bomb - lead mountain(tops) stephen mcbean’s first group - stuff to whet your appetite.
druganaut - black mountain
rock n’ roll fantasy - pink mountaintops
dont forget your love - jerk with a bomb
fine health is at home - jerk with a bomb

its a lovely day here in atlanta too bad i slept through most of it thus far. i am currently on day 7 of a 11 day work stint. on the 12th day, i shall rest. then i have 5 days off, 3 of which will be spent camping up at red top mountain. if you live in the area and camping/fishing/hiking is your thing, red top mountain is pretty great for all three - definitely recommended.
before i make my way back to the bed to get a nap in before going back to work at 11, here is part 2 of 3 of bedhead vol 3.

i have to thank one half of the lovely young gals that make up red/blondehead, leah, for bringing birmingham’s through the sparks and their recently released lazarus beach into my realm of consciousness.
lazarus beach is a confusing record and it really only started making sense to meafter about a dozen or so listens. lazarus beach whisks innocently by like a lazy sunday drive in god only knows, georgia. your only company are your thoughts and the songs playing on the lone am station picked up by that shitty kraco radio. its not until you get past these sun-on-your-face-not-a-care-in-the-world-peaceful-easy-southern feelings that lazarus beach begins to reveal its somewhat uneasy underbelly, not unlike the south itself. like behind every smile and open hand or in this case sunny melody there is a real sense of dread but this despondent feeling only rears its head if you let it. to compare lazarus beach, in some regards, to wilco’s summerteeth would not be out of line me thinks.
fallin out of favor with the neighbors
tonight or i guess this mornings offering is pavement live at e-werk, cologne, germany on june 26, 1995. anyone know if there has been any word on matador giving the remainder of the pavement catalogue the re-issue treatment as they did with slanted, crooked rain and wowee i think it would be a damn shame if they didnt.

so ga ga ga ga is making its rounds the interweb and who am i to pass up taking it for a whirl? after a bunch of listens i have come to a premature conclusion; its probably their best work, or at least most consistent, since girls can tell. both kill the moonlight and gimme fiction are so damn frustrating cause there are some really great songs but some are almost unlistenable. maybe not so much unlistenable but really boring, but lacking in any kind of soul.
ga ga ga ga ga is going to be released on july 10 on merge and i am sure you will be able to find out more info closer to the release date on their official site / myspace.
the fabulous ladybug transistor are releasing cant wait another day on june 5. sadly, they lost their drummer san fadyl on 4.25 - more info here.
the first single “three days from now” has a great parsons era byrds vibe to it. i am definitely diggin it.
