the first tom waits record i ever heard, and the first record that actually scared the hell outta me, was bone machine. i was 18 and was ill prepared for what mr waits was about to put me through. from the clanking of what sounds like bones on “earth died screaming” to the beautiful and keith richards backed “that feel,” bone machine is a wild ride through the psyche of a mad man. for those that i have never heard bone machine, you are a lesser person because so.
here is part one of a show from warsaw, poland from 5.26.2000. its a nice quality audience taped show.
1. Jesus Gonna Be Here
2. Jockey Full of Bourboun
3. Earth Died Screaming
4. Get Behind the Mule
5. Strange Weather
6. Hold On
7. Angels in Heaven
8. Chocolate Jesus
9. Murder in the Red Barn
10.Goin’ Out West
thanks to the original tapers.

i have listened to him for hours upon hours. i don’t think it’s mentally healthy to do so. however, after a few glasses of red wine, ‘tom traubert’s blues’ becomes the most beautiful piece of work ever.
Yo, I just posted a Waits show from 1974 worth a listen.
Wow. That version of “Hold On” is just heartbreaking beyond belief. Makes Norah Jones’ version sound chipper by comparison. Thanks a lot for posting this.
i have not heard jones’ rendition, nor do i think i want to. she is quite lovely and all but covering waits she should not be.
