i went through a pretty hardcore killing joke phase when i was a younger man. outside the gate and the courtald talks didnt leave my the interior of my sweet 86 taurus for 2 years or so. that is until during the span of two weeks both tapes were eaten by the unforgiving gears of my ford cassette player. then you know what happened? i didnt listen to them again for at least another 10+ years. when i did finally purchase another copy of outside the gate it did absolutely nothing for me, and therefore it sits, and waits to be played again. hopefully meeting a better fate than it currently deserves. i know where it is and maybe i’ll get around to it again, sooner than later.
here are the men of killing joke playing in newcastle on 11.19.86. its not a great recording but if you dig em, definitely grab it.

RIP: Paul Raven…
Sir blogmaster sir,
Everytime I try to play your lovely tracks I just get “loading”. I have to click on the songs and then a new window opens and the songs play via Quictime. This happens when I use Explorer and Mozilla.
Please help. OH, THANKS FOR ALL THAT YOU DO!
This is an amazing show, though this setlist is from the 1989 tour not 1986 as stated. On that tour The Joke first played material that was recorded for their amazing double album “Extremeties, Dirt and Other Repressed Emotions” released in 1990. Indeed the setlist may be identical to the stunning 1989 video ‘Live At Kitchen Club, Miami’ and, given the spoken intro to concert highlight ‘Age Of Greed’, I strongly suspect this is that very same recording, made in the southern USA ;)
So it features John Bechdel on machines plus ‘Taff’ on bass and not Youth or Raven (the latter would rejoin The Joke for recording the ‘Extremeties’ album and subsequent world tour)
The ‘Kitchen Club’ video features their never recorded track ‘The Fanatic’. A clip of that song on that video is found on youtube at this URL:
