Gregor, down here in Mississippi we never forgot ‘em–and the best thing is, after reforming last year, they’ve been playing tons. Just saw them last Saturday night (in the rain). Come down and visit!

(Also dig up Cary Hudson’s great solo work and Laurie’s jive with the Preacher’s Kids . . . )

I love me some Blue Mountain! Thanks for posting this show. I can’t tell you how much I love your website. You’ve turned me on to Explosions in the Sky and the great Austin Collins. Thanks for the music.

Another HUGE Blue Mountain fan here. Judging by the # of comments they aren’t as obscure as you think. Dog Days is a desert island disc for me, and Homegrown is almost as good. I saw ‘em live once opening for the Jayhawks in Baltimore and Cary rocked the house. Best news yet, they have reunited and have a new CD out in August!!!

Thanks for posting. I’d heard of them, but never really checked them out. Did Danny Herbst, who helped out Uncle Tupelo and Wilco with management, ever work with them?

Woo, tons of love out there for the band! Great to see (I kinda thought I only knew about them because we live here, you know?)

Gregor, I’m glad you asked because it sent me scuttling to the myspaces. From their (now updated and live) blog:

“In July 2008 we will release TWO albums, one titled Midnight In Mississippi, of new material recorded with Stuart Sykes, and one of hand picked re-recorded Blue Mountain originals!”

Since nearly all their old stuff is long-gone, this could be a great deal.

Captains dead = best in the world.

Big Blue Mtn. fan here in western NC — checked out Pollstar the other day and Blue Mountain will be at the Grey Eagle later this Summer!

Ahh man. Blue Mountain is my favorite band of all times. I probably saw them everytime they ever came through Lexington KY when I was in college. I’ve still got several of their live shows and every album, single etc. back to the lightbright album. Can’t wait to hear what they’ll be putting out this summer.

I first heard these guys back when CMJ was the shit and they actually had great music on their samplers. This album was magic for me. A whole lot of memories. The first song I learned to play on bass was “Lets Ride”. Needless to say it was also the last.
A little fact that you might not know the bass player is the sister of the bass player in Wilco. They also happen to be twins.
Keep up the awesome work I love your site.
